Number 10 role

Sun Nov 10, 2013 1:06 am

We need a player who can play the number 10 role and play behind our striker linking up play and also having an attacking threat and scoring goals too. Kimbo is a good player but not quite up to it imo.
Anyone agree with me and who would you like to see here signed in January realistically aswell???

I totally agree and I'm hoping that's what Cornelius will be able to do when fit.

I'm also hoping that's the role Malky will use him in, because I don't think we'll gain anything with having a big fella up front by himself.

Cornelius is by far not a so called number 10 . If he's good enough he will be playing the number 9 target man role .

We don't have a player capable of playing that role , maybe only kimbo but he needs to bulk up a bit to stop him getting bullied all the time .

The number 10 role is a player like Juan mata , who links the play between the midfield And strikers by holding the play up ,being able to slice through defences with pinpoint passes and can get into the box making late runs .more of a forward playmaker really .

Yes exactly, hopefully cornelius will be perfect to play our lone striker lone because of his physical presence hopefully he is gonna be a player in the ibrahimovic/lewandowski mould.
But yes your right and that's what I'm saying is we need a player who can play as a number 10 like Juan mata. Any suggestions?
How about siem de jong or lex immers these would be good we were linked with them pre season and wonder if we could be back in for them..

Lex immers is quality but he's destined for a top club IMO

I would have a look at trying to get somebody like Clint Dempsey back to the premier league

Would a top club take a gamble on him though when he's not proven in the premiership. Same could have said for Gary medel or victor wanyama destined for top clubs but a lot of the time these players have to make their mark in the premiership with smaller clubs first.

I Don't think it matters who the striker is, if they up top alone and with yesterday's midfield behind it them nothing is going to happen.

Georginio Wijnaldum. Plays for PSV.

Yeh I agree that's why I hope malky realises and we sign an attacking midfielder and a winger in January

Agreed with your comments and what we need, but 2 questions :

As asked by many posters, if we need a winger, why not try Noone for once , an out & out winger, who I believe MM signed ?
No posters seem to know any details - please comment constructively ?

Why does Cornelius's ankle injury, of which no details have emerged, take more than 2 months to heal ?
He' s a young guy in his prime - has he tried the ankle out in the DVD Squad since it happened ?

Sure wishing him to become our Great White Hope !! No racial comment intended, just a play on words. :ayatollah:

Playing one of Mutch or Kim would have helped massively.

Rather worryingly, Malky seemed to think that Gunnarrson was the answer yesterday.

Answering your questions I don't know why noone hasent played cos he would definatelty he better than cowie for f**k sake, but reason he ain't played is so far malky is being too negative in his play but hopefully he will learn from this sooner the better.
Regarding cornelius if he had a bad sprain on his ankle he would be out for at least a month no training at all and then he would obviously have to get his fitness up 100% before even playing him again. I think reason it's been maybe a bit longer than expected is that we payed a lot of money for him and are making sure he doesn't come back to early and get injured again so we are being cautious on this situation and when he's back he will be back fully fit and sharp and firing hopefully
