The Bluebirds boss said he was proud to be Bluebirds boss after defeat at Aston Villa just hours after former recruitment chief Iain Moody was appointed Palace's sporting director


Malky Mackay reiterated his commitment to Cardiff City amidst rumours linking him with the vacant manager’s job at Crystal Palace.

Mackay’s former head of recruitment and close confidante at the Bluebirds, Iain Moody, was yesterday announced as sporting director at Selhurst Park.

Moody left Cardiff under controversial circumstances recently and the decision seems to have caused a rift in the relationship between Mackay and the club’s majority shareholder, Malaysian businessman Vincent Tan.

But after seeing his side lose out 2-0 at Aston Villa, Mackay said he remained in charge at the Bluebirds and was proud to do so.

“I am the Cardiff City manager. I’ve already said that and I’m proud to be the Cardiff City manager,” said Mackay.

“I’ve got a great group of players and staff and the group of fans we had at Villa Park they were truly out-standing. I was just sorry we could not give them a win because they have been immense.

“We had nearly 30,000 at home for the South Wales derby last week and to have that many travelling away again is something I am very proud of. I’m proud to be the manager of their team.

“I’m proud to be the manager of a team competing in this division. I’m all about making sure this team is in this division next year.

“I’m pleased for Iain absolutely.

“I said at the time that our loss would be somebody else’s gain and I’m very pleased Iain is back in the game. He is a very talented individual and he will do very well for them.

“We do chat regularly, but he does not really need my advice because he is an intelligent man.”
