Naturally disappointed to lose the game, but I can't complain about the manner in which we lost too much - needless shirt pull from Medel and a stunning free kick more or less won it for Villa - the second goal was peripheral as by then the damage was done.
I thought we played well enough in general and we had one or two lovely flowing attacking moves - Mutch, Bellers and Campbell worked very hard for us. Personally, when we went 1-0 down I'd have taken Cowie off (barely present all game) and brought Noone on for a run at them...
I think the bottom line is though, putting the result to one side, we desperately need that big player behind the striker holding things up, because the chances we create in open play are very sparse and our striker might as well be on the other side of a river sometimes (no matter who's up front for us), for all he sees of the ball. I can only hope that Cornelius plays one or two DVP games now and makes his way back into the squad, because it's time we had that presence in the team. Christ - I'd give Gestede a go playing behind the striker for now, to be honest.
That said, my team would be for the near future:
Marshall
KTC
Caulker
Turner
Taylor
Medel
Whitts
Mutch
Bellers
Cornelius
Odemwingie/Campbell

When they scored we had used all our subs.....so couldn't have brought Nooney on.

There is nothing to suggest that MM would have brought Noone on anyway. We have been behind in other games and Noone has not had a look in even though we are looking to someone to change the game, e.g. with a bit of pace/width, etc.

Thought Maynard came on after the goal?
Agree with most of the OP, we are crying out for some with a bit of pace 2 run at teams, 15 mins for Noone would have been ideal IMO
