BT Sport has signed a £1bn deal to broadcast Champions League and Europa League matches for three years from 2015.
The Champions League is currently broadcast by Sky Sports and ITV.
Wow sky can't be happy with that

Great news and about time that the monopoly isn't all in one place anymore.
I'm so glad I moved over to BT before the start of the premier league and I don't envisage any regrets for the next 3 years at least.
It's been stated that BT have a far better infrastructure in place with the fibre optic cable in place and no unsightly dishes either as this can be beamed in using the rooftop ariel or even loft ariel that i myself am using.
Well done BT.

I don't see why itv or the bbc can't pull a £1billion out if their arse to rival it.

May have to make the switch to BT soon next year then. Don't really like their coverage as much as Sky though

Even though we've got Sky Sports at home I still think that Champions League and Europa League matches should be shown live on terrestrial.
Funny how times change and fortunes ebb and flow. Ferguson retires, Man Utd not quite the team they were and now Sky gazumped. If I remember rightly, at one point Murdoch was tabling a bid of £1billion for the Mancs.

SKY say that the price paid by BT far exceeds their valuation. Personally I can see BT Sport ging the same way as ITV Digital, ESPN and Setanta within a few years

BT have a totally different model and strategy, they want to the number One player in the Broadband and internet provider in th UK and possibly Europe and football coverage is seen as the way to gain internet consumers and who can argue?

No of course not but surely forking out alot more for the rights will mean that the charge to watch the games will be higher so its a huge gamble and like the others could well come short

I get what you meant and we are all used to Sky's xcellent football coverage but i'm also certain BT would not invest this heavily into something if they didn't plan to get it right. I just hope Jeff Stelling and the boys come over lol
