FORTY THREE YEARS AGO AT VILLA

Fri Nov 08, 2013 8:52 pm

I was fifteen, went up there on a train with Needsy, Cyril Workman and John Allan, who were all a year or two older than me.
(forgive me lord for my sins ;) ) we must have had four tins each of aerosol spray paint, as you did them days, we walked from the station to Villa Park, and there can't have been a wall or toilet where we didn't cover with Cardiff City, Valley boot boys, Aberdare skinheads etc etc. when we got there the famous four went in the infamous Holt end which was a terrace holding at least twenty thousand Villa fans in it's heyday.

Well we done every bog and wall we could spray without getting caught, and then waited n the Holt end and tried to blend in, it may have been out=r imagination but every Villa fan there seemed to be talking about our decorating skills (ironic, because two of the lads became painters later, true).

Well they were hunting in packs now, because they knew there were some City there and it didn't take long to suss us four knobheads out, Parkas up over our heads trying to hide, big gap opened up and we were down the front an on that pitch before you could say kill the little twats.

All the Cardiff fans who them days were in the side enclosure under the Grandstand were giving us the big one as if we'd tried to take the Holte end, yeh OK.

Just to rub it in to the Villa fans who were frothing at the mouth, Needsy was flashing his cans of paint just to wind them up even more ,tw*t.
The stewards were marching us around the edge to our fans when one of the supervisors decided he was simply going to put us back into the Holt end but just a fair bit further along, f**k that we was gone like whippets cross the pitch and into the Cardiff section and straight down to the bogs there to continue the work.

Oh my God when I think back, how i made it to adulthood was more luck than sense I think. Different times then and it really was a mad world and a mad era. :old:

Mind you, it must have been a dream, because if you listen to Adam, I didn't see my first game until 2001.
Perahps they haven't painted over the bogs and our handy work is still there. :o

Bored this evening Gwyn?

Give it five minutes and the morons on CCMB will be all over that post like a rash. The Guardian will be consulted, the slippers will be donned, the pipes and comfy cardigans will be out, glass of wine or two and once the herdsman gets on line the sheeple will be will be bhaaring away....
