Mark Lawrenson Predictions

Aston Villa are not great at home because they are more suited to playing on the counter-attack.
And Cardiff are on a high after beating Swansea in the South Wales derby last weekend.
But football has a habit of kicking teams up the backside after a good result and I fancy Villa to get the win here.
Villa need to start winning at home against the teams in the bottom half of the table or they are going to be dragged down there themselves. If they beat Cardiff and the other teams in the bottom eight then they will stay out of trouble.

Paul Merson Predictions

Cardiff are on a mega high after beating Swansea in the big derby match last week, but I've got to go for Aston Villa here. I don't normally go for Villa at home, but I think they have got to win this game and I think Christian Benteke could be the difference. Villa were unlucky at home to Everton because they started that game well and they drew 0-0 at West Ham last week, which isn't the worst result in the world. They haven't scored for four games, which is a worry, but I'll go for a 1-0 win. I've seen Cardiff play away a couple of times and they haven't been too impressive.

They need to give us something to look forward too. Our home form is shit. People argue that lambert is doing a good job but people are voting with their feet and not turning up because at the moment there are better things to spend £30-40 on! Unless you are a die hard fan theres not much point in going. I can't go on saturday because of other circumstances or else I'd go no matter what the footy is like, but I wouldn't put down fans who don't go because its a lot of money and if your not being entertained its a waste of money!

Just watched Cardiff v Swansea match. Better than any Villa game I've watch e's this season, (ie all of them)
They don't look like whipping boys to me and this win for them will give them a huge boost of confidence.
Ended up wanting them to win if I'm honest, they played well and deserved it.

This is the match that focuses on where we are right now. We've had some unexpected, strange wins and far too many defeats. Lose this and the floodgates of crisis will open though PL will appear as King Canute telling us there's nothing to worry about.
I've just watched a different game to the Fear, same teams Cardiff and Swansea but I thought they were both awful. No shots on target in the first half, it was very poor stuff. If we can't beat them on Saturday we might as well pack up. 4 -1 Aston Villa.

Cardiff bought: a striker, a defensive midfielder and a centreback for their FIRST TEAM. It's called planning; you identify the key roles and strengthen the team - not rocket science

If we lose then its time to start panicking. A draw I will still have serious concerns, a win will easy my concrens slightly and a big win I will just be annoyed that I couldn't make the game

From watching the game today I'd say their biggest threat will be from set pieces. The trouble is they set themselves up to play 4-5-1 at home. I can't see them going hung- ho away. If the onus is on us to break them down we could struggle again.

I honestly think this will be a massivle tough game and expect either a loss, but hoping we get a draw.I honestly think this will be the game the fans turn, both in attendance and atmosphere.In truth, I am not looking forward to Saturday at all.

i think we will do these lot... even though they won yeaterday they dont look very good... saying that though, nor do we. But i have a feeling we will win. 2-0 villa is my prediction and i think Benteke will get back to his scoring ways UTV

In fairness they are home but then again they play better away from home. They like to counterattack but we dont get forward enough for them to counterattack.

I was quite surprised that one villa fan said that our derby was better than all the villa home performances and he's seen them all.It looks to me if they don't score in the first 20mins their fans will turn on them.I think we'll get a good result.

As for Villa fans, I think they're being over confident for the most part; they haven't done much since beating Arsenal at the start of the season.

I meant to add they are sounding frustrated at home which will suit us. A big part of our game is stoping other teams play, and making other teams look poor, hopefully their fans will get on their backs. I've lost count of the times that I have heard other fans saying they were poor when they played us, it's because we don't allow them to look good......

Very confident of a win here. Malky will again set up 4-5-1. We will frustrate villa in the first half and come on strong in the second half for a comfortable 2-0 victory
