Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert says he's ready for Cardiff City

Paul Lambert has sent out a Premier League warning to close pal Malky Mackay ahead of tomorrow’s Villa Park showdown: “You’ve done great this season – but we will try and unlock you.”

Aston Villa boss Lambert and Cardiff City counterpart Mackay have been friends since their playing days at Celtic.

But they will be putting friendship to one side tomorrow as both clubs go chasing three priceless Premier League points in the Midlands.

And while City head north buoyed by last Sunday’s South Wales derby win over rivals Swansea, Lambert is looking for his coveted Belgian hitman Christian Benteke to go gunning for Mackay’s Bluebirds.

Villa have failed to score in their last four matches, but Lambert, pictured, says: “We are creating chances and the goals will come.

“Christian Benteke is always a threat and overall we have come on leaps and bounds since last season.

“If we keep going we will have a good season.”

Cardiff go to Villa Park having kept back-to-back clean sheets including their 1-0 win over Swansea, and stand one point ahead of Lambert’s team. “Cardiff have done well,” added Lambert.

“When you are promoted momentum can take you on again.

“I had it with Norwich and right now, for Cardiff, the momentum is there.

“It’s when you’ve been in it for a few years it can become a bit more difficult.

“I know Malky really well and I’m looking forward to seeing him.

“Cardiff have done great.

“It’s possible they come to Villa Park and attack a little more than they have been, but I can’t really see Malky changing his ways I’m not so sure.

“He has his way of playing.

“But we are at home and, just as we do every time, we will go out trying to win and it’s up to us to try to unlock them.”
