A forum for all things Cardiff City
Thu Nov 07, 2013 11:34 am
Please be honest.
I haven't posted or even been on for over a year but I was watching the Jacks game in the Hollybush Sunday and was quite impressed with the support in the pub for the City. Chatting to guys most are old regulars who can't afford season tickets so can no longer go. Replacing them are fans who have sprung up probably since the FA Cup final. Can I make it clear that I have nothing against them. We need them fans to progress as a club and become established in the Premiership, which is what we all wanted all those years in the bottom two leagues. That's why I am posting this question as I am honestly intrigued and hope this board has a good mix of fans who can start a debate.
The answer for myself is probably not. Not because of the Red or Vincent Tan as if I am honest I prefer his stewardship to the Riddler. Although lately has been shocking at least it's related to football and no longer HMRC related. I really felt started to feel distant from the club from the semi final and final of the FA Cup run year and I have never really got back. Us being back in the Premiership got me a bit of excitement back but that's probably cos it's new. It might be the new ground. Although Ninian Park could be quiet when it was rocking it really was rocking and being stood on the Grange End, Bob Bank or even Lower Grandstand is where all my best memories of football come from.

How is it a stupid question? Now I remember why I stopped coming on.
We would not sell out in the Championship let alone the lower leagues ergo some people would stop going.

"can't afford season tickets" - if you can afford to be down the pub then you can afford to buy a season ticket simple as. Just put the £30 odd a month away and you will have enough for a season ticket, NO EXCUSES!!!

Hey it's their choice to be down the pub rather than splashing out for a season ticket. For myself I can afford a season ticket I choose not to buy one. I don't regret that choice.
Hollybush in Pentwyn.

To the original post...
Pal I remember the days when we used to invade the pitch on the last day of the season singing "we'll support you evermore"
We had just been relegated.
I will support Cardiff City no matter what, where, when, why or how.
Thu Nov 07, 2013 12:30 pm
everyone will say yeah but 50% are lying
we were only getting 12,000 in bad runs championship and in div 2 we would get 12,000/13,000 on a good day. and that was towards the end of the era hamman (glory days)
when we were shit no one wanted to know, they were all wa**ing over man utd and liverpool

I will always be there in Blue.

This ^^^^ The football is the main part, but there are many reasons why I go.
There are more games in the lower leagues to enjoy too.

I think Maccy has asked a perfectly reasonable question.
I've been watching City for over 50 years. This season feels like a prize at the end of a long , exhausting and sometimes miserable journey. Having finally tasted the high life, I am not sure that I could easily summon up the enthusiasm to keep going if we are relegated ( especially if it were a self inflicted wound, which seems possible). On balance I would probably keep going to Championship games but if we fell any further that would be it for me. I've seen enough lower league crap. I guess that might make me a glory hunter.

Is that 50% accurate or did you just make that up ?

Haven't been for a while due to work, as soon as that changes ill go to every game i can regardless of what league we are playing or who we are playing, fyi I'm 21 been supporting Cardiff since the first division play off final 2004
Thu Nov 07, 2013 12:43 pm
History answers the question, about 20,000 would disappear in div 2, and peoples priorities change then, you can't blame them, family time sounds better than watching Aldershot or Accrington, it's still about 18 quid an you are watching terrible standard of professional football.
I only have it in me to get to about 6 home games a year now I live in Shropshire. Long work hours, a

will to spend time with my fam, along with the need to relax on days off overrides my will.to get down the city. I'm just lucky I have a chance to get tickets when I need them.
In div 2 I'd only ho when visiting family in cardiff, as its a long drive to watch players who shouldn't really be pro.
Thu Nov 07, 2013 1:05 pm
I doubt the price in the lower leagues would be much cheaper.
and yes I would go.
Thu Nov 07, 2013 1:19 pm
Good post by the OP.
Me personally, I would still go. I hope that many others would too.
I'm sure some will say yes but if the time comes, they'll piss off.
But for me, you can't walk away from your club.
Thu Nov 07, 2013 1:28 pm
I would 100% go even if we were in the Conference league, I've been going now for over 40 years and I hope to go for the next 40 years if possible, those that know me will vouch for what I'm saying without a doubt. I love Cardiff City and it wouldn't matter to me what division they are in as long as they remain as Cardiff City.
By the way I hate the re-brand with a passion but there was nothing I could do about it other than don't buy the merchandise and ALWAYS wear blue to all the games I attend, home and away. Some have answered that by not turning up to games anymore, (that's their choice and I won't condemn them for that), but I have to have my football fix so that was never going to be an option for me.

This I agree with.Pity about some of the replies. The attitude of some of the keyboard warriors leaves alot to be desired.
Thu Nov 07, 2013 1:38 pm
There will be a few that will stop going, but they aren't the type to populate message boards. You'll find most of the hardcore post on here & they are the ones that will stay no matter what league we are in.
Thu Nov 07, 2013 1:38 pm
If we stay in the premier we'll have full houses,if we go down to the championship we'll have about 20,000,if we go lower then the crowds will get even less. That's football, success brings the fans in and relegation and poor performance's drives them away.

If anything I'd be more inclined to go.
1. The tickets are cheaper
2. Terraces are more fun
3. People don't take things so seriously and are more of a joy to be around
4. Less restrictions and stewards who think they're sergeants are no where to be seen
5. More games per season
6. Better variety in terms of travelling to different places and seeing places you'd otherwise probably never visit
Thu Nov 07, 2013 2:14 pm
I would still go if we went 1 league down or 20 leagues down

Forever Blue wrote:I would still go if we went 1 league down or 20 leagues down

Feck me 20 leagues down and even you could afford to buy the club and change the colour back to blue just in time for our derby with Ely rangers or Cardiff Corries.
Thu Nov 07, 2013 2:31 pm
Yes, I've watched in all 4 divisions and would happily do it again.
Thu Nov 07, 2013 2:48 pm
Once you got Cardiff in your bloody it stays in your heart , then your fked , you have to go
Thu Nov 07, 2013 2:55 pm
If we dropped 20 leagues malky would be gone and we'd have captain nemo as manager.
Thu Nov 07, 2013 2:55 pm
Already have done it - fans today have never had it so good , anyone who stops supporting as opposed to attending are plastics
Thu Nov 07, 2013 4:06 pm
I will keep supporting Cardiff no matter what division. But obviously there will be the Premier League plastics who will disappear if we go down.
