THE Hoops supporters were drinking in Cafe Old Sailor in the city when masked men burst in and reportedly shouted “Amsterdam Hooligans.”



AROUND 50 Celtic fans were attacked in an Amsterdam pub last night – hours after they featured on Dutch TV.

The Hoops supporters were drinking in Cafe Old Sailor in the city’s famous red light district when masked men entered.

A Dutch news website said the thugs shouted: “Amsterdam Hooligans.”

Witnesses said a fight broke out before the attackers fled and security staff barricaded the doors.

A man who answered the pub phone last night declined to comment.

Dutch police were unable to provide any details.

Earlier, Celtic fans in the bar were interviewed by a local news crew ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash with Ajax.

It is feared yobs targeted the pub as they knew Celtic fans would be inside.

Ajax could face sanctions from Uefa over fans’ behaviour during the first leg at Celtic Park last month.

Dutch supporters clashed with stewards after Celtic’s first goal in a 2-1 win, ripping up seats and throwing them into the home sections.

The case will be dealt with by Uefa’s disciplinary body on November 21.

Spoke to Celtic fans on the train to Schiphol airport (accidently called them british) they said they bought 12k fans to Amsterdam.

That's why both clubs are huge as not only do they draw support from the Glasgow area, but they attract fans from different sectarian backgrounds both in Scotland and Ireland. Liverpool also have a big north walian support due to its close proximity to Liverpool itself. Like I said, if you know nothing on the subject then say nothing because you're making yourself look silly.

Don't tar all Celtic fans with the same brush. Cardiff fans used to sing songs about the queen mother, does that mean that all Cardiff fans are republicans who hate the monachy? Moral of the story is don't judge a book by its cover, otherwise you just look silly. All I'm going to say is that I'm not defending their actions because its wrong what Celtic did in regards to abusing soldiers and the slogans about the war dead, but listen to both sides of the story as the British weren't Angels when involved with Ireland.

Yes that is open to debate, just going on what I've read of them. I'm not a Celtic fan in the slightest, just don't think the anti-Celtic topics are fair. Yes there are scum who follow them, but what team doesn't have that faction? There are also Celtic fans who are supportive of British troops, who's families were involved within the British army in the Great War. I believe there's still a royal Irish regiment still going if I'm not mistaken.
