Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey set to escape FA punishment over 'swim away' gesture to Cardiff City fans
6 Nov 2013
The Swans midfielder will not be charged by the FA after making the gesture following Sunday's South Wales derby
Swansea City star Jonjo Shelvey will NOT be punished by the Football Association for his 'swim away' gesture to Cardiff City fans following Sunday's South Wales derby.
FA chiefs were considering whether to take action after Shelvey's actions were caught on television cameras as he passed a group of Cardiff fans just minutes after the 1-0 defeat.
The gesture is a reference an incident which took place in 1988 where Cardiff fans allegedly retreated into the sea after the two sets of supporters clashed.
Shelvey's actions capped a dismal day for the former Liverpool FC man who was at fault for Cardiff's winner as he left the post he was supposed to be covering at Cardiff's corner.
Meanwhile, Shelvey will miss tomorrow night's Europa League clash with Russian outfit Kuban Krasnodar due to family reasons.
The midfielder did not fly to Russia with the rest of the team but is likely to be available for Sunday's clash with Stoke.
Swansea manager Michael Laudrup was also forced to leave injured trio Michu (ankle), Pablo Hernandez (thigh) and Garry Monk (knee) behind, but full-back Ben Davies is fit after missing the derby through injury.

Shouldn't stop the club taking internal measures, unless of course they are happy to endorse such behaviour from the professional players..........

Worst punishment would be to force them to keep playing him, all talk and no walk .

Yes good news, stick him on the near post for the rest of the season, he's class at defending corners

Why should he be punished by FA or club ? We give shit out so why complain when they give it back. Sorry but that pisses me off.

What would he have been charged with exactly?

He looked as though he needed armbands. Guilty as charged of being a useless footballer and a total tw*t.

Inciting a riot.
Common sense has prevailed here. Shelvey embarrassed Swansea more than he did to us.

Being a tw@t, since Trundle and Tate left they have had a few half hearted efforts, but credit where it's due, this tool could go on to become the gypos biggest tw@t ever, especially when you consider how young he is and that he is just in his first season for them....

Don't mind him doing it tbh, adds to the pantomine side of the fixture which makes it what it is. Just means we can hate him even more and give him twice as much abuse everytime we play him again. On a side note the chant of 'Chico, you're a c**t, Chico Chico you're a c**t' had me in stitches. So simple but so effective. It came just after he had a massive strop about something.

Dont bother getting him banned, he is doing a cracking job on the pitch - he's shyte so the longer he plays the longer they will struggle

It would be a shame to ban him. Useless idiot should get as much game time as possible.
