Well since his death twelve years ago, I have had his ashes in an urn in my lounge with me, still talk to him and keep him updated, well because yesterday was so special, I took him to the game with me, his urn which is a glorified green sweet jar was decked out with a ribbon and his photo stuck on the front.
When I got to the turnstile and a female steward asked what I had in my bag, i said I had my best mate, you could hear her brain whirring, so I showed her the urn and she said "and what are you going to do with it" to which I said "well I ain't got to eat it at half time" she had to ask her supervisor what she should do, and fair play to him he really got it and laughed while waving me through.
Not taking him again mind, the bloody fuss he made had to screw the lid back on twice, miss him every day and those that knew him and the relationship we had will understand, others will think it's just nuts, but hey, nothing wrong with nuts.![]()
Remembering back to when he had died, the club let me bury some of his ashes in the goalmouth in front of the Canton, a load of us went down and it really was touching, the next three home games we won on the bounce something like two nil, three one and four two, Spraggy one of the coppers that knew me and Beefy well said to me " have you noticed since we buried Beefy's ashes in the goal mouth, we haven't stopped scoring" to which I replied " yeh, makes me wish I'd killed him years ago, Spraggy said "you sick b*stard, but Beefy would have loved it" which is just how it is, black humour, sick ,but helps me and others cope with the reality of life and death.
