TROUBLE IN PARADISE.

Mon Nov 04, 2013 12:13 pm

Paradise as Swansea fans would have you believe.

High flying squad, European competitors, cup winners.....

However their captain is far from happy with his teammates...

"We did not play well, we did not get into our rhythm and we did not pass it well enough," said Williams.

"We weren't solid enough off the ball, and we didn't show enough heart, in my eyes.

"It was bitterly disappointing. I don't think we played well, I don't think we showed enough desire."

"How many times have I spoken about defending set-pieces?" he added. "It's getting ridiculous now.

"If we can't defend set-pieces we don't deserve to win the game, and we didn't again today.

"We have spoken about it so much, it looked like we had tightened up.

"I don't think they would have scored today if it hadn't come from a set-piece, I don't remember Michel (Vorm) having a save to make.

"(At set-pieces) you've got your man. I know my man, it's me against him, he doesn't score against me. If he does, it's my fault, it's that simple."

Think someone is far from happy at his current club.....

To be honest, Williams is a quality player and had he opted to play for England he could have been at a top team like Arsenal or Liverpool now plying his trade alongside a player of some credibility. Thats just the truth to be honest. His passing at times yesterday reminded me of an NFL quarterback pinging out balls to wide receivers yet those players out wide never once trapped the balls he put into them and I think at one time Dyer lost Taylor and he still couldn't control it. No wonder he's frustrated.

Its easy to criticise him because he's a Jack but had he opted to play for England he'd have been talked up a hell of a lot more in the media for the fact he's English and him and Caulker could have arguably been a good option at the back going into the next World Cup with Jagielka and Cahill.

Swansea are lucky now that he's 29 and other clubs may not want to part with cash for someone who most likely has only one contract left in him.

Bale had to prove he was world class before the hype came along. English players don't have to do so because the media hype them up as soon as they've stopped wearing nappies. There's numerous proof of that - Liverpool signing Shelvey from Charlton is one perfect example. English players all get the same treatment - they build them up and state they are amazing and then use that own hype and expectation as a tool to beat them with they make a mistake or don't live up to the expectations placed on them.

If Bale was English he'd have been recruited far earlier than he had done by a top English club at the time like Manchester United as they have done with Wilfried Zaha.

i get what you are getting at i suppose, but i wouldnt put ashley williams in that bracket. He is a good defender sure, not good enough for a top four club imo and although Arsenal were apparently sniffing around him (as a back up no doubt) they didnt big.

Brenden Rodgers obviously doesnt think him good enough for Liverpool either or he would have picked him up too.

I understand what you're saying but the media hype train with English players is insane. Look at how much Wilshere gets lauded in comparison to Ramsey. Ramsey has always been the better player in my opinion and has been held back for injuries yet this hasn't stopped English fans, the media and so on using it as a tool to criticise him and his form. When Wilshere was injured he was given pity and England's next big talent needed time to recover yet it was completely different for Ramsey. Now he's firing on all cylinders they love him and it just shows the fickle nature of the fan in the modern game, Piers Morgan himself a perfect example.

Don't get me wrong, Liverpool already had top talent in their team at the time Rodgers went there in Skrtel and Agger (second best defender in the league after Kompany in my opinion) but I do think Williams would have advanced or had been looked at more had he been English. Im talking about 4-5 years before that though myself and I think had Williams been English he'd have got his move to bigger things around 24-25. Lets not forget the likes of Roger Johnson and so on got moves quickly because they were English and made out to be better than they actually were. He got found out at that level because of his apparent issues off the pitch and attitude but I don't think Williams would have. I think he'd have progressed even further.

Of course its all hypothetical and each to their own on the matter Paul but I still think the bias has damaged his career. Its only in the last year or so Welsh players have been given credit for how good they actually are and some of the true talents being produced and thats largely thanks to Bale putting us on the map after his exploits. Of course people were aware of Giggs and Bellamy but now more people are taking Welsh football more seriously and clubs are trying their hardest to snap up young Welsh players early, Harry Wilson at Liverpool, to make sure they capitalise on them if they come through as true talents.

Bale has done a tremendous job of putting Wales on the map in terms of producing raw talent and its easy to see how perceptions of us as a nation in terms of football have changed. This has further been aided by both us and Swansea doing well in the leagues.
