We have 3/3 now for November with Villa, Man Utd and Arsenal to play. Realistically there I'd say we can expect 1 from 9 if I am being honest giving us 4/12 for the month. That's a draw vs Villa and losses vs United and Arsenal at home. Nothing to worry about of course.
That takes us into December on 13 points. This means Norwich will have to pick up 6 points to go above us in their games, Sunderland will have to pick up 9 points and Palace can't go above us as there are only 3 fixtures with a max of 9 points. Of course with 5, 8 and 9 points respectively these teams could go above us on goal difference.
The other teams fixturesPalace are to play Everton at home and then Hull City and Norwich away. This is good for us as its those two teams playing against one another. Everton will also be tricky for Palace at home.
Norwich play West Ham at home (tough team), Newcastle at St James (tough ground) and Crystal Palace as pointed out above.
Sunderland play Man City at home (tough), Stoke and Villa away. Both of those grounds are tough places to go.
DecemberMoving on, we could be going into December still with a decent gap. I think Norwich will get 4 points (puts them on 12), Palace will get 4 points (puts them 7) and Sunderland will get 4 points (puts them on 8).
Why is this significant?Well in December we play Stoke, Palace, West Brom (home), Liverpool, Southampton and Sunderland and all of those are games we can pick points up from and kick on.
In the same period Sunderland have to play Spurs, Chelsea, West Ham and Everton.
In the same period Norwich have to play Liverpool, United and West Brom at the Hawthorns (tough place to go)
In the same period Palace have to play Chelsea, Newcastle, Villa, Man City and West Ham.
Whilst games are not won on paper we could open up a gap during December. During that time last year in the Championship our style also became more effective. The weather helped us as it made it harder for teams to play slick passes and get into flow and our dogged like approach came into its own. We won important games during December last year.
I think we can take at least 8 points from that selection and thats throwing in a few draws here and there. Even Liverpool are beatable if they don't turn up and December is a great time to play them when the likes of Suarez and so on will find it harder to come into their own and play around us in triangles. This leaves us on 21 points at midway in the season (13+8)
Sunderland I think will get around 6 points from their fixtures. This puts them on around 14 points.
Norwich I think will get 6 also putting them on around 18 points.
Palace I think will unfortunately for them get 4 points and still be struggling on 11 points
That puts us on around 21, Norwich on around 18, Sunderland on around 14 and Palace on around 11.
There are 9 games between now and the New Year and thats 27 points on offer. If we can take at least 9 points from them games that puts us well on course at half way for reaching the 40 point mark.
9 points from Villa (D), United (L), Arsenal (L), Stoke (D), Palace (W), West Brom (D), Liverpool(L), Southampton(L) and Sunderland (W) is certainly attainable. 1 point per game is all that is required now up until the New Year to keep on course for the magic 40 point mark.
