no set day to show your respect...we have had the forces at the stadium before to show our respect.....and it wasnt on the 11th...so as we cant do it on the 11th...you say dont bother.......great attitude

If its not on the day its pointless. Takes away from the meaning of the 11th

Got to agree with craig on this one and thats a first time

me too - this weekend coming is the time to pay respects, and hopefully Villa will be doing that.

Who can show the most respect!!! Its like a competition. Nothing stopping people doing it, dont need a football club to tell you when to 'show respect'
People can take things to far really, like this thread for example..... started at 11.11 so we can all say congratulations to krabb for being the most respectful person here.
I know, why dont we have a month or rememberence and give prizes for who can look the most mournful? Who keeps the quietest at the daily 1 hour silence, and who comes up with the most ideas to make sure the whole country 'shows respect'
Its the 11th for a very good reason.

Quite apt the time of posting.

why do a rememberence at a football match? Surely if you want to show your respects you go to a church service or a cenotaph and do it properly.
Or are you too lazy to do that and instead want the easy option of bringing the service to your local place of entertainment? What next, hold a service in the local pub?

Well......if those that think we dont need to.... Can you tell me why everton thought it would be a fitting tribute when they played spurs.......and maybe it would have been an excellent day for serving members of forces to march infront of 27,000 supporters......

there we go then. Lets do it because someone else did!

I saw that Everton had a minute's silence or something similar on Sunday against Spurs, given that they'll be away this weekend. Must admit, it did seem a little bit too early.

Rememberance weekend (around 11th) is the best time to do it. I'm glad it didn't happen in the derby game - I couldn't see many people staying quiet for a whole minute on Sunday. Then, it would have been used as another stick to beat Welsh clubs with...

Craig, 11th is on a Monday this year and most 'civic' ceremonies will take place on Sunday 10th (including Cardiff, Newport and the two biggest agh London Cenotaph and Sunderland respectively. Surely this makes sense, as towns will be quieter and many more people are able to attend?
My own Colour Party will be split between Cardiff and Newport (I will be at the latter) and then we have a private event at 11am on Monday itself for colleagues

Its not about what makes sense. Its about the 11th. That was the date.

Actually, it's about paying homage and remembering those who have given their lives for the likes of us to have the (relative) freedoms that we have today
In an ideal world it would be the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month but that is simply not practical from an 'organised event' point of view for so many logistical reasons
However, those who wish (like me and my colleagues) can still stop at the 'correct' time on the 11th for a more private and personal commemoration
At the end of the day, so long as 'they' are not forgotten that is what really matters
