' OUR SEASON SO FAR ' Update on it

Sun Nov 03, 2013 9:52 pm

Not a classic match today, but in reality how many derby games are, but having said that a very important victory for the Bluebirds and a thoroughly deserved 3 points.

So after 10 games of our first season at this level for over 50 years we have 12 points on the board, so what does history say is likely to happen to us by the end of the season. One point I would like to make is that our opponents today have won many plaudits during thier time in the PL, and rightly so, and in thier first season they also had won 12 points after 10 games so if nothing else we have done well to match that statistic.

Of the 30 clubs relegated from the PL over the last 10 only 2 ,Blackpool and Middlesbrough, have been relegated having won more points, 13 points in each case. At this moment Crystal Palace, with 3 points, have the lowest 10 match total of any club over the last 10 years and are surely doomed. Sunderland with 4 points have the joint 2nd lowest points total matching QPR last season and again have a mountain to climb to survive.

In the next two home games we face Man Utd & Arsenal which will mean after 7 home games we will have played 5 of the teams who normally fill the top 7 positions. Only Liverpool & Chelsea will have to visit the CCS in the remaining 12 home matches and for me that's what makes our start to the season so good.

Whatever your thoughts about how MM sets the team out to play I have absolutely no doubt that he is putting everything into making sure we are in the PL next season. Thanks to this start we now have 10 home matches which are winable for us and hopefully we will.

That will give MM the opportunity to continue his fantastic work at developing our squad, making us stronger and establishing us as a PL club.

Thanks to our start that is a real possability.

Gary that is very interesting that the Jacks get the plaudits for their achievements in the Premier League and we have matched what they have done in their first season after 10 games.

Things are looking promising for us and I still believe we will stay up with a few games to spare too :ayatollah:

MM got us set up very well defensively, we look solid, it's just our attacking that lets us down as we don't create enough chances! today we kept the ball well, passed it around, and even though we only had 3 shots on target, we looked more of a threat! Odemwingie (and Campbell when he came on) pressured their back four very well, and won a lot of throw ins and corners from chasing so much! :ayatollah: happy about the performance today, vastly improved from our last 2, and the result is great :ayatollah:

It is an interesting stat Carl and another is we have conceded 3 goals fewer than them at the same stage.

We are looking good for survival and that's huge credit to MM, his backroom team and our players.

A very comforting thought looking at those remaining home fixtures. I just hope we can finish off these weaker teams on our own patch like the Jacks did against Sunderland. No reason why we can't.

Derby were actually on 6 points after 10 games. Kenny Miller was their top scorer - says it all really!

However, it's not too far fetched to think that we could win just 3 or 4 more games this year. Safety is all that matters this season, so the quicker we get there the better.

I think if we have secured over 20 points by the time the transfer window comes along then we will be fine. I can see us maybe loaning a couple of wingers in jan that will see us through, possibly zaha as one of them.

I read a stat recently suggesting that to survive in the premiership then a club would have to average a point a game. We are slightly ahead of this at present and as long as we maintain the same results then we will survive our first season.

I've said all along our home matches in our mini league will decide our season and this is why I felt lots of fans were panicking and over reacting with their "Norwich is a must win game". We have had a tough start and are in an excellent position. Credit to Malky and the lads!
