City’s record appearance maker Phil Dwyer has been awarded a lifetime season ticket at Cardiff City Stadium today to honour his 16 years of service to the Bluebirds as a player.
Dwyer made a total of 471 appearances for Cardiff City in total. He signed on as a Youth Player at Ninian Park in 1969, appearing in the 1971 FA Youth Cup final before going on to become a club legend with the Bluebirds between 1972-1985.
With ten senior Wales caps also to his name, Dwyer was delighted to be awarded the lifetime ticket, saying: “I've seen most of the games this season and always get down to see the City as much as I can, work permitting of course. It's tremendous to now see them in the top division and I'm very thankful of this kind gesture from the club.
"The club has changed a tremendous amount since my day and I think it's for the best. I played at Ninian Park when the mud would cover your ankles. It's a carpet out there and it's a fantastic arena for everyone to play football on, a few years ago I'd have loved to have had a shot on it!"
Former player and now working in the commercial department at Cardiff City Stadium, Damon Searle said: “It’s great to be able to honour Phil’s great service to the club with this lifetime season ticket.
“We know Phil has always been a regular at the games and we’re delighted to recognise his record number of appearances and continued support to let him watch his club for another twenty plus years.”
Next up for the Bluebirds’ of course is a long awaited South Wales derby clash with Swansea City at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, an occasion Dwyer thinks will bring an electric atmosphere with it.
“I played at Ninian Park and it was an incredible intense atmosphere to play in,” said Dwyer, “But you have to move with the times and the atmosphere inside Cardiff City Stadium this season has been incredible.
“I'm sure the atmosphere in here will be electric on Sunday. The atmosphere against Manchester City earlier in the season was something but I think Sunday will be manic.
“I played down here a good few years ago now and there are people who were down there supporting the club then, now watching their team in the Premier League.
"It's tremendous for people like them to be able to watch their team in the Premier League.”

Top player for us, built like a brick outhouse and loved a tackle, he put many strikers in the air.
