Carl Curtis: Why I think Cardiff City will topple rivals

Sat Nov 02, 2013 8:38 am

The day is upon us, the date that every Cardiff City and Swansea City fan looked for when the fixtures were announced back in June.

The South Wales derby will be beamed into 220 countries around the world with a television audience of several hundred million.

The excitement has been building, a sense of trepidation, butterflies in the stomach and the dreaded fear of losing to our most bitter of rivals.

I don't think most Jacks forget about the past but i'm sure I speak for many when I say we should be proud of the way we fought against an owner wanting to bum us,proud of the way the fans united to get us where we are today.

Mind you Carl always seems to conveniently forget that when he worked at Garys garage in Cwmavon,Port Talbot a few years back he had absolutely no interest in Cardfiff City whatsoever and was the biggest, most fanatical Glasgow Rangers fan on the planet.

I wonder if this post will get removed?

So what if he was?

Hes an ardent Cardiff City fan now who attends most games and provides transport for others.

You were getting crowds of 3/4000 little over a decade ago you now get approx 20000 do you go around checking up on who everyone used to support before going to the Liberty?

Chris, everyone who knows me is aware that I have gone to watch Rangers and as a youngster I had the shirts but when people like Daz say I had 'no interest' in Cardiff City is when I know they are just on a wind up.

Probably because he is a little bothered to be reminded that the Jacks are not the perfect business model for a football club and fans like us won't let them forget it.

Carl I think most Cardiff fans not actually from the City supported another team as a child.

I used to like Liverpool cos Ian Rush was my hero but I cant stand them now.

I suppose you get more pelters for it because of the "fans leader" tag but theres no doubting your level of support and commitment to the City.

Interesting. I'm of the opinion that the longer it goes on 1-0 the better for us with it being at home. I can't see us forcing the issue and the longer Swansea go without breaking us down the more they will get frustrated and it's at this time we must take our opportunities or try and score from a set piece. Each to their own I guess but I'd be lying if I said I'm not nervous. I absolutely can't wait.

Good post. I agree. I used to support Liverpool when I was younger because of my father did as he worked up there and lived there years before I was born. Thats why he got into it. I grew up and went my own way as I went down the City and thats how it happened. First game Hartlepool in 1999 on my birthday.

I still watch Liverpool because they play good football under Rodgers which also helps counterbalancing the dross we often see at our own club with the defensive tactics. However, I can't wait until we take 6 points off them home and away and I can wind up my mate in university who will go into melt down if we do as he always goes in a sulk.
