I've done ceremonial duties at Ypres and it is without shadow of a doubt a humbling and emotional experience

Will be at Newport Centotaph this year and St Davids Hall this evening

Very emotional place. We laid a wreath there, and could not believe the amount of people that turn up every night, not just special occasions.

Slight wrong choice I admit Jonny but they do it every night and have done since the end of WW1. There are some in this country who can't even be bothered to take a minute on 11th November to keep silent and remember the thousands upon thousands of men and women who gave their lives.

Have been to Ypres (but missed the last post)and done parts of the salient. Anyone looking to do these visits should also do Vimy Ridge which is incredible.

One good one for Welshmen is to visit Mametz Wood on the Somme where there is a dragon memorial. My great-uncle Frank fought there with the Cardiff City Pals Batallion of the Welsh Regiment and managed to come back alive(quite a few didn't).With a bit of research you can walk the exact ground over which the troops advanced and note the position of the enemy trenches etc.
