Cardiff youngster joins Newport on loan

Thu Oct 31, 2013 6:38 pm

Cardiff City defender Adedeji Oshilaja has joined Newport County on a one month loan deal and will hopefully get some useful League 2 action under his belt to aid his development. Oshilaja is highly thought of by the City coaching set-up and is one of a current crop of players in and around the first team squad.

At 20, and with very little first team experience, Oshilaja is unlikely to feature for the Bluebirds this season though the emergence of Declan John and his debut against West Ham confirms all our youngsters should remain hopeful of making the squad.

Speaking of the loan deal, NCFC manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Sport:

'We've had to reinforce and Cardiff has helped us. It was necessary that we did it. We have eight senior players injured at the present time and we're not able to cope with that.'

'The board have backed me to bring reinforcements in and we're delighted to have done so.'

Best of luck to Oshilaja, hopefully he gets some gametime and we'll keep an eye on his progress.

Perhaps we should be lending players to Newport more often. A good way to give youngsters experience and help another Welsh club. Not far for the youngster to travel and easy to monitor progress.

Heard good things and watched 2 full 90 minutes on the live DVP games and he looks good and a threat from set pieces.

League 2 for a loan spell? Bad move IMO.

Should be aiming for at least a high league 1 team or Championship.

I agreed with Harris going to Brentford who are a good League 1 club with an excellent manager in Uwe Rosler who will give Harris regular games and improve him. I don't think Oshilaja is quite up to League 1 standard yet mind and if he joined a League 1 club, it would be a waste of time as I don't think he would get regular games. I think Newport will be a good move for him and I hope he does well and comes back a better player from the experience.

Oshilaja has been a key player in central defence for the development team and I rate him highly.

I disagree with you in regards to his move to Newport being bad. I think its a great move for him, its a perfect opportunity for him to gain league experience. The key thing for any players is to gain league experience, regardless what league they play.

Good luck to Oshilaja, hope the loan move does benefit him as well as us.

I expected a league higher in respect and can't disagree with your post. Hope it does go well for him but hope it isn't a step wrong for his development.

I think a link up with Newport is good.

Their manager is like Malky and they try to play football. :malky:

its only for a month. I'm sure depending on how well the lad does he will go back on loan to a club at a higher level

Oshilaja signs for County
Friday November 01, 2013
Adedeji Oshilaja has registered on an Emergency Loan from Cardiff City for a month with Newport County AFC with confirmation from the Football League and clearance from the FA Premier League received at lunchtime today (Friday November 1).

'Deji' is a welcome addition to the squad and travels to Fleetwood Town for the SkyBet 2 League clash on Saturday. Comfortable in central defence, Oshilaja is looking forward to getting acquainted with the rest of the lads and helping to continue the strong start made by the team in League 2.

Born in Bermondsey, South London 20 year old Oshilaja has made 2 first team appearances for Cardiff City FC and will bolster the depleted defensive ranks at County and is in contention for a starting place on Saturday.

Welcome to Newport County AFC 'Deji'

I agree.

Hopefully the stupid rivalry which is 90% one-sided will die out in the next few years and the clubs can work together, helping us develop our players and helping Newport get some more decent players into their squad.

I know some would hate this, but if it wasn't for the fact i might hear anti-Cardiff songs i would go and watch them when we didn't have a game. Newport could do worse than make an offer to CCFC season ticket holders when it's international break and they have a home game - or maybe for midweeks.

Hope the lad gets a start for us at Fleetwood tomorrow, with all our injuries, and has a great game.
