Police on red alert for South Wales Derby

Wed Oct 30, 2013 8:48 pm

Swansea fans will be bussed to the Cardiff City Stadium ahead of Sunday’s South Wales derby, while British Transport Police wearing body cameras will patrol trains and stations as security measures are increased ahead of the Welsh clubs’ first Premier League meeting.
Transport police will man every stop between Carmarthen and Cardiff and use the cameras to film supporters at locations where there is no CCTV in place.
Plain-clothed and uniformed officers will also travel on train services between Swansea and Cardiff to record and monitor any clashes between rival fans.

Swansea supporters will leave the Liberty Stadium at 12.30pm on free buses provided by the club and will travel to Cardiff under police protection.

The away fans will not be able to receive their match tickets unless they take advantage of this service.
South Wales Police have chosen not to release further details of the plans for Sunday’s 4pm kick-off, as is typical ahead of big local football derbies, but match commander Superintendent Tony Smith said the force’s record of hosting major finals at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff has left them well-prepared to ensure all goes smoothly this weekend.

Supt Smith said: ‘South Wales Police is accustomed to policing large sporting events as a result of hosting the Wembley fixtures for six years and two Premier League seasons in Swansea.
‘We work closely with clubs to develop policing arrangements for all fixtures throughout the season.
‘As always, we want the focus ahead of the game to be on the football not the policing of the event.

‘It is going to be a great occasion for South Wales and we hope the fans have a safe and enjoyable day.’
Cardiff had 26 supporters arrested for football-related offences last season, while Swansea had 13

12:30pm? :(

Now that will cause major problems for Cardiff supporters getting to the game from the M4 and down the Ely Link Road, as if it's not chaos down there on match days at the best of times!
