The 31 shots on goal against cardiff yest is a prem record? I cannot see that stat being beaten for many years, a little bit embarassing for us, but atleast we got a point, cant see us getting that lucky again tho.

Everton racked them up against us when they beat us 3-0.

Just checked, they had 30.

Although we were down to 10 men for the last 35 mins.

Exactly , you can only count what was either saved or went wide/over in my opinion

As long as its not 31 on target I couldn't give two hoots. Just means that perhaps a shot was the only option, good marking, defending maybe?

It's quite common for teams to have 20 plus shots in a game

Only shots on target should matter some of the shots were so high and wide they almost went in the net @ portman road lol

Dont know about that. It produced the best save for sure but there were many similar from Norwich, i was amazed by the amount of free headers from 8 or so yards they put over the bar, and the one off the line, didnt one hit the base of the post too? Or was that another off the line?

Caulker had a free header too. Not going to deny they dominated though but many of their shots were wildly off the mark.

Honestly can't remember any off the line apart from the Whitts one, but that's his job in that situation and he did it well. It wasn't coincidence that he was there.

Me too, I know loads are frustrated by his tactics, but THE most important things are to be hard to beat and pick up points, and so far that is what we are doing. (yes you sarcastic fuckers i know we HAVE lost 4..but none have been walkovers)
I know he COULD of got a winger in the summer, but I honestly think he didn't due to not being the player he wanted to bring in...agree with you though, winger not in jan with cornelius back and we will be a better team

I need anger management after reading half the threads on here this morning mate

It's a good job for my health and well being that ive got that jack clown on ignore as i think reading a post off him would make me jump out of an upstairs window

To be honest trying to remember the game I probably got worried about 4/5 times when they had decent chances in all honesty , other than that like people have said they were potshots from everywhere or blocked 25 yards out .
To be honest we probably had better clear cut chances than them

Im pretty certain it is a fact that if you take a random 100 games of football and look at the stats. There would be far more wins for the sides with most shots on target.

Its law of averages really, you need to shoot to score generally, the more shots you have the more chance you have of scoring. Again there can be exceptions but this will be the case far more often than not.

I havent checked but i will do a quick one for yesterdays games. Any match that had a winner we will see if that team had more shots on target...

Villa 0-2 Everton.... Everton more.
Southampton 2-0 Fulham.... Saints more.
Man Utd 3-2 Stoke.... Same amount.
Liberpool 4-1 WBA... Liverpool more.

Not one team won with less shots on target than the other.

Worthless in terms of making an impact to the actual scoreline, however not worthless to the fact they had the ability to create that chance and you failed to stop it.

Strikers dont care if they go on a drought as long as they are getting chances. Its law of averages. They start to worry when their chances dry up.

Few points here..


Teams will get more shots than us.

1. Because we play so deep, but are quite difficult to break down, so lots of shots from distance

2. Our best player this year is our keeper, followed by our 2 centre halfs, so not surprising really.

3. We don't shoot from distance much ourselves, haven't for years

4. We had several games ourselves where we had 20-30 shots, but still drew or lost - that's just the way it goes somethimes

5. Norwich had 4-5 chances they should have scored from - we had 2. they were the better side by far.

6. I'm sure the quote is bollox.

7. Some shots are so poor they may as well be backpasses - sometimes they actually are so bad they cause counter-attacks !

31 shots and couldn't score no wonder they are struggling
