Two men bailed after Premier League linesman was hit by Spurs smoke bomb

The men, aged 25 and 47, were arrested after official David Bryan was struck by the missile during the Aston Villa and Tottenham match

Two men arrested after an assistant referee was hit by a smoke bomb during a Premier League football match have been released on police bail.

The men, aged 25 and 47, were arrested after official David Bryan was struck by the missile which was thrown during the first half of play between Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

West Midlands Police said the pair have now been released on police bail, pending further inquiries.

The game at Villa Park was delayed as the smoking missile was removed but Bryan was unharmed and able to continue.

The incident occurred amid the celebrations after Andros Townsend had put Spurs on course for their 2-0 win with the opening goal after 31 minutes.

Exactly this. All these smoke bombs are just going to mean random searches and sniffer dogs. Many people will be a lot more nervous about taking their Charlie through the turnstiles

And still say they haven't got a problem with smoke bombs and flares it's the idiots who use them

It was a fluke. The odds on it hitting him a again is probably 15m to 1.

I really can't see what the issue is here. It happens all the time abroad and nothing is done.

Going to get my Violin out soon. Can't believe I'm reading that Cardiff fans are being sympathetic towards a linesman when Cardiff fans used to love smashing sculls. You lot on happy pills or something?

FAO Brighton Hove Albion

Just it put a stat out there... F.Y.I

Cardiff City Fc has been family club of the year for the last 2years..

Over those last year we also had 500,000 home fans through the gates with only 3 arrests..

Over those last 2 years we have taken around 80,000 - 100,000 away fans to games with I think around 44 arrests..

If only you knew how hard our club and fans have worked 2 banish ourselves of this perception, its nothing new it's been happening for the last 10yrs..

I suggest ur chatting utter nonsense and wouldn't post such pointless shit that u have no knowledge of.. I really really hate knobheads like u..

However in essence have we lost our bottle??? Don't b soft daft, it's just we are that good we can pick and choose when and where to kick off

The owner of that smoke bomb was, quite probably, an honest guy who wanted a bit of fun. Unfortunately, that bit of fun appears to have turned into a serious incident and it would not surprise me if a prison sentence (or at least a criminal record) followed. Criminal Record potentially means loss of job, problems paying the mortgage etc etc.

Personally I dont see the fun in it.......

Cracking shot, fair play to him.

Don't know why so many people are moaning about it, it happens in football and now the guys got to deal with the consequences. :ayatollah:
