Lets have a look at who we've played...

Sun Oct 20, 2013 12:55 pm

In our opening 8 fixtures, we've played against Man City, Everton, Spurs and Chelsea. I put them in the top 7 teams in the league, along with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United. That's a tough start by anybody's standards.

Now consider this; most of our points will be picked up at home, like any other team. Look at our home fixtures so far: Man City, Everton, Spurs and Newcastle. We've accumulated 4 points from that lot, which actually isn't a bad return at all considering the quality these teams posses.

This record surely doesn't deserve anywhere near the backlash it's been getting from moaning negative fans. It's when we start to drop points at home against the bottom half table teams that questions have to be asked. But that's not happened yet, so just chill out ffs. Look at our squad, and look at the season objective: to avoid relegation. Malky and the team are doing a fine job thus far in that regard.

Newcastle were bottom half when you played them and are likely to finish bottom half too.

If you are only hoping to pick up home points against the bottom sides then you wont accumulate enough to stay up thats for sure. There are only 2 really weak sides in this division which equates to 6 home points.

First of all, how are Newcastle likely to finish bottom half? They're in tenth right now, and that's having played half their games without their best player, Remy. To me they look like they could finish in the top half, certainly not for off it anyway.

And it looks like you've missed the point. I've not said we should only be winning against the really weak sides (god knows how you've came to that conclusion). I've said we should be picking up most of our points against bottom half sides, which equates to roughly 10 teams. As I've said and I maintain, looking at the teams we've played against at home already, 4 points it a very decent rate. One we start getting teams like Norwich, Stoke, Fulham, West Ham etc. at home, those are the games that the bulk of our points should come from.

Newcastle are likely to finish in the bottom half because they arent very good. They were 16th last year for a reason. Yes Remy is a good player, but he was a good player last year too and QPR still were rubbish.

You cant expect to beat every team in the bottom 10 at home, thats just not realistic. As Newcastle showed you. The only games where you should EXPECT to win at home is of the likes of Sunderland and Palace, possibly Hull given their inexperience at this level. The rest and your in a major fight for points.

Again pal, I've not said I expect us to be winning against every bottom half table team at home. I've said it's where most of our points are going to come from, and we've not played most of them yet. Surely you agree?

Also agree that we could easily lose some of these games like the Newcastle one; but we could also win unexpected points, ie beating Man City at home, which effectively cancels out the Newcastle loss looking back on our last 4 home fixtures as a whole.
