But if point 1 is correct, point 2 is irrelevant, surely?

It would have been a yellow card for Marshall as the Cardiff defender was closer to the ball than the Chelsea attacker.

The location of other players is irrelevant in this situation. If the keeper had slid out of the area whilst holding the ball, it's "unintentional" and therefore a yellow card. Catching the ball out of the area (as per Marshall today) is "intentional" and therefore a red card

It's the referees discretion whether he interprets the act as intentional or not. If the ball is caught unknowingly outside the box, then surely it's unintentional? If your theory is correct then there'd be red cards every 5 minutes for deliberate fouls.

You can't unknowingly catch the ball outside the area! That's like saying a defender unknowingly trips a forward in the box so it's not a penalty. Muppet!

Uhh yes you can, If your eyes are on the ball catching it from a height and momentum carries you over then yes it is unintentional. Muppet!!

You're clearly not capable of reading, are you? As I said earlier, if a goalkeeper slides out of the area with the ball in his hands (or, as in your example, momentum carries him out) it's a yellow card as it's deemed unintentional. As Marshall was already standing outside the area when he caught the ball it's deemed intentional, and therefore a red card. Simples!

He handles it outside, no doubt about it. He's just misjudged his positioning though.

I'll have to have another look at it then. Taking the bias out I thought it was borderline.

If a keeper handles outside the box its a red card, it doesnt matter if it isnt denying a goaldcoring opportunity etc. and also it doesnt matter if its intentional or not. If you are a defender, scratching your head while on the line not even looking and the ball rockets into your hand and you save it, you are off. If the striker is bearing down on goal and you trip up and barge him over from behind - you are off. So on and so forth.
But i havent seen either incident. Just telling you the laws of the game as lots of people seem to be rewritting them in this thread.

Roathie,he handle outside the box,as been said the spurs keeper did the same against cardiff, and though out a season everything gets evened out, irrelevant of Marshall being on the pitch, the issue is the ref and linesman, the goal should not have been allowed to stand, because Marshall bounced the ball,he didn't drop it,so in the laws of the game he was still in control of the ball,if this happened the other way around, would the goal been allowed to stand?,I doubt it very much, what I ve seen so far in the prem the refs favour the big sides

I agree with you. The goal should have been disallowed and regarding the handball lloris did the same and got away with it.
But on that notion, im sure you will have a goal given that shouldnt have stood at some point this season too. As you said things tend to even out.
I also agree regarding the refs. I think they are horribly biased, before we got here id heard people say that but thought it was a myth. We got our first penalty yesterday since our first season in the prem, needless to say its now our third.
