A lesson in finishing...

Sat Oct 19, 2013 5:36 pm

Marshall may have made a few uncharacteristic errors today, but today was all about the quality of finishing. Thought we did well in the second half, but Chelsea took their chances and that won them the game.

People can moan and complain about the Marshall incident today, but it didn't cost us the game.

I'll agree about finishing. We haven't been good enough with our shooting all season. Last season I was begging Kim to shoot when he was working his way into spaces, but now I know exactly why he wasn't: the guy can't shoot for shit.

One man up top is fine for the away games I think, but I'd like to see more ambition at home. Maybe things will change when Cornelius is fit?

Yes it probably did, Marshall gave them a goal, and brought them back into the game before half time, it was definately a game changing incident ????

It's a wee bit frustrating, no one wants to take the responsibility of taking a shot on from outside the box, only Mutch, and last season Conway!

It really didn't. We played better in the 2nd half than the first. If anyone is blaming defeat on Marshall's error for their equaliser, then they are deluded.

Today's defeat was based on Chelsea's ability to convert their chances. Cardiff had a spell in the 2nd half with a few chances, none converted... the ball goes up the other end of the pitch and with one chance, it's 3-1.

The longer Cornelius is absent, I fear the larger the pressure on him will become.

Agreed, there will be a lot of pressure on the lad, and I fear he will be shown little patience by many. We definitely need another option, and I hope the lad can provide it.

I agree with this - the Marshall incident wasn't the clincher in this game. Had it not happened, we'd most likely have lost anyway. To be fair, Chelsea's first goal was a bit of a freak event; some refs might not have allowed the goal.

We looked decent at times, we really did. I liked some of our play going forward, it's just that we didn't take our chances again and Whitts squandered more than one corner kick. I'm starting to feel like we need another man up front. I'm looking at the big Dane, like everyone else, but I'd also consider trying Rudy up there alongside Campbell for his size and strength.

I agree with you and if this is the new chuckles then more power to you, however, if people disagree with you they're not necessarily deluded(your favourite word it seems)they just disagree with your assesment.

We've had a few of these lessons in finishing since we went up. No panic, it happens. First game of the season Van Persie tore us a new arsehole... The difference between the budgets the big teams have and the budding teams is immense.

If anyone believes that the Marshall incident cost us the game, then that's delusional to me as there's no way in hell it cost us the game... Using that as an excuse would just be covering up the cracks.

You nor anyone can say with any certainty that the first Chelsea goal, that wasn't a goal, didn't cost us the game. if the goal is not given them we go in at half time 1-0 up, Mourinio and Malkys team talks and tactics are very different( Ray Houghtons words not mine)
