Malky Mackay denies being asked to resign by Cardiff City
18 Oct 2013
Mackay was speaking after a fortnight of turmoil at the Bluebirds, sparked by the departure of recruitment chief Iain Moody

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay today revealed he was not asked to resign at any point during the club’s recent crisis, and he insisted there was no summer overspend on transfers ahead of Iain Moody’s departure.

Mackay was speaking after a fortnight of turmoil at the Bluebirds, sparked by the departure of recruitment chief Iain Moody - a close ally of the manager.

He was replaced by 23-year-old unknown Kazakh Alisher Apsalyamov - a man with no previous experience in football - while rumours emerged Moody had paid the price for breaking the club’s transfer budget as they brought in big name signings like Gary Medel, Steven Caulker and Andreas Cornelius.

But, Mackay insisted, that was not the case, and assured fans he never considered walking away as he future became plunged into uncertainty.

Mackay said: “Obviously I’m really sorry to our fans for what they have been through.

“It is obviously as a result of Iain Moody leaving the club and he is a class act as far as I’m concerned.

“Over the last two-and-a-half years he had a huge part to play in restructuring of my squad and he’s been a huge part of our success.

“He will be sadly be missed by everyone and he leaves with my respect and gratitude.

“His loss will be a huge gain for someone else.

“The one thing I want to clarify is that we were absolutely under budget last summer. I want to clarify that.

“From my perspective, under no circumstances was I asked to resign and at no time did I consider resigning.

“I was at a board meeting on Monday where I met with key individuals at the club.

“On Monday and over the last two weeks I have had a lot of close contact with Mehmet Dalman, who is a very impressive figure.

“There is a mutual respect and understanding between us.”

The initial row led Mackay’s agent Raymond Sparkes to warn the club they must tell fans exactly what had been going on behind the scenes, or Mackay would.

The manager, however, was remaining tight-lipped today following Monday’s five-hour board meeting that appears to have eased strained relations between the Scot and owner Vincent Tan.

During that meeting Mackay was given assurances he will have the final say on all transfer dealings, with the club’s directors keen to offer support to the frustrated manager.

Mackay refused to answer further questions on recent events at today's press conference, insisting his focus was fully on team matters.

The Bluebirds now travel to Chelsea tomorrow on the back of a 2-1home defeat against Newcastle ahead of the international break.

Malky obviously, the others who was claiming to be ITK are the same people who want Tan Out so they want this to be true as it would push Tan more into the corner.

It just suits some individuals agenda to paint the worst portrait possible about Tan.

Iain Moody getting sacked is beyond me still, but no one knows who instigated it?

But people knew him and Malky was close so even our own supporters as well as the Media wanted to stir things up so it could push Tan in the corner even more, pathetic really because they are only saying it just to try and get Tan out.

Nobody knows and I doubt we ever will know what happened with Moodie. For all we know there is a legitimate reason he got sacked and replaced. It is worrying that he was replaced by a noob but I cant see this being more than a sweetener for the guys father and definitely not a permanent role.

Fans, especially the more high profile fans, should stop the scaremongering and wait for facts to come out. Things that Annis and Carl have said, for instance, Malky 100% being asked to resign are all being proven wrong.

Annis you saying the media are right?

When Iain Moody got sacked, the day that was put out there all the media jumped on it and made different scenarios up, it's what they love to do.

I've never had an agenda against Tan. Like the majority I've took the rebrand on the chin. Cardiff City FC has always come first and foremost. That won't change

The weeks leading up to the Iain Moody news I received some disturbing first hand news re Tan meddling with team affairs etc. I don't post tittle tattle on here and only once have I properly criticised the club on here. The person who told me that it was suggested to Malky that he should consider his position has never gave me false information before. One or two things changed over the course of time, but what has happened recently is getting smoothed over. Lots of appeasement has obviously taken place and probably an apology or two

In the short term this can only be good news for Cardiff City and hopefully we can move from this distasteful incident for the sake of our season

I get really disappointed with threads like this accusing the "ITK" of making things up, scaremongering etc

This forum is great because we see the opinions of certain CCFC fans who, may not be commenting from within the inner most workings of the club - but they are involved enough to know a big more than the majority of other fans.

When you see high profile posters sharing their opinions, passages from blogs and articles & hearsay from people inside the club it has to be taken with a pinch of salt and you have to respect that sometimes tey are wrong.

Constantly critisizing then for posting these snippets of knowledge/opinion will discourage these posters and ultimately stop them from forwarding their contributions onto this board which ultimately leaves us reading less satisfactory content and makin the time spent in this board a waste of time.

As for this particular insident I hardly think that Mallky would publicly announce that this current boss has asked him to leave so it's hardly a reliable statement & it wasn't just posters on this board suggesting he had been asked to leave - it was reporte through the media aswell including BBC sports news

So a message to forever blue, Carl, city gent and all others with a certain amount of insider knowledge and an avid interest in this club please do not stop posting your opinions and news due to negative responses from some

I appreciate what you are saying - although I think you may be highly overestimating the political/influential clout that this board possesses.

This is a fans forum, run by fans and read by fans - in short it is a 21st century version of a debate in the local pub.

Whilst there is no room or tolerance for uninformed, liable accusations to be banded about - the damage that this board will contribute to the efficient runnin of Ccfc equates to nil

If that is he case then I'm afraid that it is a reflection of the poor journalism that we must put up with in this contry and is the fault of the lazy journalists & editors who allow it to go to print.

As for the particular incident of our new head of recruitment doing painting whilst on work experience at ccfc - I'm sure that this was generated by the daily mail before being referenced to on this forum.

The bottom line is a fans forum cannot be heals responsible for any damage done by lazy journalism

So a message to forever blue, Carl, city gent and all others with a certain amount of insider knowledge and an avid interest in this club please do not stop posting your opinions and news due to negative responses from some

it depends how damaging it is to the club doesnt it ???????????????????

I appreciate what you are saying - although I think you may be highly overestimating the political/influential clout that this board possesses.

This is a fans forum, run by fans and read by fans - in short it is a 21st century version of a debate in the local pub.

Whilst there is no room or tolerance for uninformed, liable accusations to be banded about - the damage that this board will contribute to the efficient runnin of Ccfc equates to nil

i think the media get a lot off this board especially the echo ;) it only takes one rummour to be said and it snowballs where did sky sports news and other outlets get the painter story from :?:

As for the particular incident of our new head of recruitment doing painting whilst on work experience at ccfc - I'm sure that this was generated by the daily mail before being referenced to on this forum.

It is unfortunate - and Known to be one reason that deters footballers from playing in the UK.

The bbc for example - supposedly the cornerstone of world wide journnalism, providing unbias reliable stories - have published some of the worst non-stories and frankly worst bullshit I have ever read.

Using the f*cking Roy Hodson half time comment as another example, Which in my opinion is as far away from reading material as you can get, has been blown out of all sorts of proportion by the British media. It is such a non story and that's all that we shall read about for the next few days.

There arnt many media outlets in the UK which can produce a decent sports write up

Agree on the bbc . Used to look at the Beeb as the pinnacle of journalism . Some of their recent reporting is very poor and is heavily skewed by a PC agenda they seem to be running with . On the England matter , feel very sorry for Roy and his squad . They seem more intent on running with that as opposed to giving praise for reaching Brazil . In general I think their national team get a rough ride . They deny it but the media like nothing more than an England failure or crisis

With all due respect I do agree but very strange that people coming up with these rumours of the relationship with MM and VT all have a agenda with VT so it is quite strange and they are doing it to stir things up and make VT look like the bad guy hoping this farce going on continues.
