' Clubs agree ticket deal for away fans '

Premier League clubs were each given £200,000 to subsidise travelling fans for this season 2013/14 :thumbup:

17th October 2013

A number of Premier League clubs are introducing reciprocal deals to reduce the price of tickets for away fans.

Newcastle United have agreed deals with West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City, while the Welsh club have a further agreement in place with Hull City.

Magpies finance director John Irving said: "We believe the right way to encourage people to attend is to look at charging reasonable prices."

Premier League clubs were each given £200,000 to subsidise travelling fans.

Swansea fans will pay a reduced price of £20 for adults and £5 for concessions at Hull and Newcastle, with the same prices in place for the return fixtures at the Liberty Stadium.
Travelling supporters from Newcastle and West Brom will both pay £15 for adults and £5 for concessions when their teams face each other.

Swansea vice-chairman Leigh Dineen hopes more agreements can be made.
"I'm glad to see that things have slowly started to gather pace," he said.
"We are in constant dialogue with other clubs in the Premier League and hope to announce additional reciprocal deals over the course of the campaign.
"We are determined to help keep the costs down for travelling supporters; not just for our own loyal fans, but those supporters of other clubs around the country as well."
Away attendances have declined by 10% over the past five seasons and the Football Supporters' Federation (external) has said the cost of tickets is a major concern.

A 2013 BBC study of the costs of football found the average prices of the most expensive season ticket and highest and lowest match-day prices in the Premier League had fallen by up to 5.3%.

So Cardiff City can arrange for our fans to pay less for away tickets by subsidising them from the £200,000 they have been given :thumbup: :ayatollah:

Newcastle or Sunderland would be a good one for that. A massive following going up there with their big away ends would be huge. I think the Sunderland away end could hold up to around 6000 if the demand was there. I doubt we'd have that many travel but it would be nice to see a good few thousand go up there :ayatollah:

It starts with the £5.00 away travel to Norwich I think :ayatollah:

True, as City decided to take less tickets than offered,it works out about £15,000 from the £200,000 they've been given, so plenty more cheap games ahead for our fans £185,000 worth :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Newcastle and Sunderland away sound good to me, long trips and expensive for our fans :thumbup:

This is clearly a good move, but it proves watching your team away from home (ticket prices), particularly in the PL, must be addressed nationally. I would propose the following ticket pricing structure for travelling fans as follows:

PL: £35 adults; £25 (Concessions);
FLC: £30; £20;
FL1: £25; £15;
FL2: £20; £10;
Conf: £15; £5;

If clubs wanted to price their away tickets cheaper than this they could.

StT.

Want to make a weekend of the Newcastle trip myself. Wouldn't want to be on the bus for that long... Boro was hard last year.

Really good idea, take binoculars if you go to Newcastle. By the time you climb to the away end, you can just about see the pitch miles below you ;)

With all the talk on this forum, and mikes board come to that, about those only benefiting from away games are those who travel on organised travel, why don't we take a leaf out of the jacks' book and do what they did:-
All those who went to Tottenham away had the option to have an away game free, albeit on organised travel. There are a lot of us who travel by train to away games, but if that scenario applied to us then quite possible for Newcastle and/or Sunderland, I would travel on Carlos coaches!!!
Cant wait for the day when I travel with you lot :lol:

That's exactly the reason the supporters clubs advised the club to take a small allocation for Norwich. Now they can keep their snouts in the trough for many more games to come without us horrible independent travellers getting a look in.

Sod the independent traveller, the bus travellers are the real fans, and they are ok!!
