Five things Malky must do to keep his job!

1.Leave Iain Moody in the past

The decision taken by Vincent Tan to remove Iain Moody one of the lynchpins of the rise of Cardiff City with crucial player acquisitions in recent times is a blow. Especially when his replacement has no experience of the role and could soon find out he has bitten off more than he can chew.

Despite Mackay having the right to feel aggrieved it is clear than Tan calls the shots not him. If he wants to ensure he survives and has a good relationship with his owner he needs to leave this issue in the past. Who knows, showing humility and the ability to deliver on the pitch whilst letting Tan carry out his own agenda may strengthen Mackay’s position.

2.Try and secure more marquee signings

Vincent Tan may have proven he can be a livewire when it comes to hiring and firing coaching staff, but Mackay can use this impatience to ensure his billionaire owner further strengthens the team.

The funds are available for Mackay in January and if he can attract big names to the Cardiff City Stadium it will certainly help consolidate his team’s in the Premier League.

Medel was a real breakthrough signing for the Bluebirds but there must be a constant emphasis on trying to bring in big names if the owner is to be satisfied. There has been talk of Isaac Cuenca from Barcelona making a loan move to Cardiff in January and Mackay would do very well to assure this move gets over the line.

3.Keep expectations realistic

There may have been some real eye catching signing made this summer, but Mackay needs to keep expectations in check.

This is Cardiff’s first season in the Premier League and getting to the 40 point mark and ensuring survival has to be the most important objective of all.

Cardiff have made a solid enough start but things can soon become difficult.Mackay needs to make sure his players don’t have their heads in the clouds and to realise that relegation will be a fear for the majority if not the whole season.

4.Get the best out of Andreas Cornelius

The 20 year old Danish international was seen as a real coup in the summer. £7.5 million on a striker is a significant outlay on a striker for a newly promoted, and he needs to start delivering the goods.

Martin Jol insisted that the player was overpriced, but Mackay needs to show faith in his man and ensure he delivers.

Any side that wants to stay up needs to have an exceptionally talented striker who can fire them to safety and Cornelius fits the bill.

The former FC Copenhagen striker hasn’t been able to be a main feature in the side’s success so far, but could provide a spark when the team need him most.

5.Use Craig Bellamy as a mouthpiece

Whilst at a lot of clubs letting the players talk become the symbol of the club is a dangerous sign for the manager it shouldn’t be here.

Bellamy is fully backing Mackay and if he can be used to good effect on and off the pitch it will ensure that the fans remain onside throughout the season.

The Bluebirds supporters have a real love affair with Craig Bellamy and if Mackay always acknowledges this special relationship and keep the recently retired Welsh international on side, it could keep his job safe.
