'The man who convinced Malky Mackay to stay at Cardiff City'

How new Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman emerged as Malky Mackay's greatest ally during club unrest
16th Oct 2013.

The Cypriot chief, who was brought to the club by Vincent Tan, has become close to Mackay and is determined to keep the manager at Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman has emerged as the key man in convincing Malky Mackay there is a way forward from the wreckage of the past two weeks.

Dalman has formed a close bond with Mackay in recent days – and that relationship will be a key factor to the club's bid to achieve Premier League survival.

The Cypriot businessman, a former Crystal Palace trialist, has clearly taken a hands-on role to help steer Cardiff City through the crisis following the departure of Mackay's close recruitment aide Iain Moody.

There were fears that Mackay could even be on his way out of Cardiff City as the row rumbled on, but chairman Dalman has brought a new calm, easing the relationship between Mackay and the club's Malaysian owner Vincent Tan.

Mackays short-term future at City now appears assured following Dalman's efforts before, during and following a five-hour board meeting this week.

Mackay is understood to have full trust in Dalman, and he will be at the centre of private talks between the pair and Tan when the owner flies in during the next fortnight ahead of the South Wales derby on November 3.

A press statement issued by Cardiff City makes it clear Mackay will have the final say on ALL club transfers and that is the most crucial factor in the new understanding.

The position of City's acting head of recruitment Alisher Apsalyamov was scrutinised during the board meeting but he remains in the role, albeit with a new committee set up to aid Mackay in his transfer dealings.

Dalman is the man understood to be the key driving force behind placating Mackay, and their relationship now appears to be key.

Dalman, from Paphos in Cyprus, understands football, having been a young player at Palace, while he helped the Glazers in their takeover of Manchester United.

He is a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers American Football team.

Dalman had the chance of a playing career with Palace, but took the education route and has built a good career as an investment banker and powerful businessman with interests worldwide.

He studied at the London School of Economics, speaks English and Japanese and has a working knowledge of Greek and Arabic.

I have heard good things about him and hope this is the man who can actually tell Tan how things are and is not afraid to stand up to him and can tell him the truth, no matter how much he stamps his feet. :ayatollah:

Lets see if he can make him see sense over our kit. Now THAT would be a result. :ayatollah:

I can't see Tan ever backtracking over the kit... Sadly! So that's why he needs to leave.

Seen a lot of reports over the last couple of weeks about Mehmet Dalman. Seems a decent bloke, who is the one bringing sanity to the current situation.

Reading a few things, as well as hearing some things, it sounds like Malky probably would have been gone by now if Dalman wasn't there.

Could be a situation of Malky and Dalman working more closely together from now on.

But then what ?

Once the debt is changed to equity the club will become attractive. He may still have to take a hit mind.

But with the debt it's a huge huge gamble.

Also do we want another nutter in charge - as it's only likely to be a nutter who would take over at the moment ?

Barry/Annis any ideas who the hell would takeover if he was to leave?
At the moment the only person i can see is Sam Hammam and a consortium he could probably put together..

Tim(Lawn Mower)/Jinks I see us being taken over by either of the following Chinese(most likely), Russians or sold on the Stock market. Our club will be Debt Free/Premier League and a huge Fan Base, but still sadly without any identity.

We will have an identity Annis but sadly for us not the one we would want.. But aslong as the stadium seats etc are not turned red there is a chance the new owner could change us back to blue :thumbright:

Barry,
couple of things

1.was looking forward to your expert definition of how to run a football club 'correctly' but no show yet

2. Annis is probably right (add USA but everything is conditional on CCFC being in the PL)and we probably won't be alone.Your friends down in jerkland are probably trying to work out how to get their big pay day through this route for all their sanctimonious bollocks. But you may be unwise to base little crusade on a white knight changing the strip back to blue as there is every possibility that Mr Tan has done what he has done for a reason.

If you believe that there's a reason, then your more deluded than I thought. especially as you keep insinuating that I'm a Jack.

Hi Barry,
1. your definition of running a football club 'correctly' ?
2. please explain how I am 'deluded'
3. I believe you co-habit with a jack season ticket holder but why accuse me of something I have not done?Classic diversion tactic.

All ears.

1. Don't see how that's got anything to do with anything. You may think that Tan's decisions are totally logical as a football club owner, but I don't.

2. You're deluded if you think that there is a reason behind the rebrand other than Red is Tan's favourite colour.

3. You've got many things wrong about me before. Accusations of being RM... Accusations of being a Jack. Though, what my living arrangements have to do with you, I don't know.

Please stop trolling & derailing the thread.

1. Don't see how that's got anything to do with anything. You may think that Tan's decisions are totally logical as a football club owner, but I don't. So you yet again avoid a valid question raised directly in response to a post of yours.

2. You're deluded if you think that there is a reason behind the rebrand other than Red is Tan's favourite colour. I happen to believe that it's part of his investment/exit strategy but that does not make me deluded.

3. You've got many things wrong about me before. Accusations of being RM... Accusations of being a Jack. Though, what my living arrangements have to do with you, I don't know. Living arrangements, not bothered but you've posted them here so I merely repeat them. Thinking about it I may have suggested you were related to RM and I think you got that one deleted. You are certainly as evasive as he is when the going gets tough

Please stop trolling & derailing the thread.
I don't troll and followed up on the thread which touched upon future potential investors. It was convenient also to remind you of yet another point on which you had done a runner, and pleeeze Mr Thread derailer herself.
