FORMER head of recruitment at Cardiff City, Iain Moody, could be a strong candidate to join the new set-up at Derby County.

Newly-appointed Rams boss Steve McClaren and chief executive Sam Rush have talked about building a recruitment department at the club and the search is on for somebody to head it up.

Derby have yet to decide on a title for the position but the job description includes “focus on recruitment, managing the scouting system, and dealing with agents and the football network”.

Derby are eyeing a number of candidates and Moody’s background suggests he meets the criteria required.

His suspension and subsequent exit rocked Cardiff last week.

Moody was described as manager Malky Mackay’s trusted aide.

He followed Mackay from Watford when the Scot joined the Bluebirds in June 2011 and he is believed to have played a key role in the signings of Steven Caulker, Gary Medel, Kevin Theophile-Catherine and Fraizer Campbell.

According to his biography on Cardiff’s website, Moody has a degree in French and Italian, and he began work as a UEFA-appointed interpreter for the Italian national team during Euro 96.

He has worked in Paris, Brussels and Florence. He joined Watford, initially as press officer and then Football Operations Manager.

Cardiff’s experienced striker Craig Bellamy admitted to be shocked by Moody’s exit.

“It’s a huge loss for us because he’s outstanding,” said Bellamy. “Any club with Iain Moody is a miles better club.”
