Gareth Edwards is indeed the director his biggest movie so far was 2010 indie cult movie Monsters.
The writers for this are Frank Darabont (Shawshank,Green Mile& Walking Dead) and David S Goyer (Dark Knight Movies& Man of Steel)

Brian Cranston (Breaking bad)and Ken Watanabe (Inception&Batman Begins)are the 2 biggest names in the Cast so far.

Will this film be good enough for Godzilla to retake his mantle of being the king of monsters? or will cloverfield hold on to the accolade. Cant see it happening personally! That cloverfield monster is one mean motha'fuka. id like to see them both duke it out for the undisputed title in the future Lol
