I`ve been to all 7 games this year and to be honest except for the fulham game we looked second best in every one .... every home game we have rode our luck and been penned in our own half of the field and against newcastle it was like men against boys .... malky is a fantastic person and very professional in his approach to the media and us supporters BUT do you really think he is the man to take us forward and get us looking like a proper premiership team? ... i really dont know so much ..... i wasnt a big dave jones fan at the end but the football was far more attractive .... since malky as been in charge the football at times as been awful but effective for that league .... one things for sure. IT ISNT IN THIS LEAGUE! .... without abuse whats your honest opinion?

I've seen people tout him as possibly one of the best British managers out there. Absolutely delusional. I'm a Malky fan myself but he's just your stereotypical British manager who will never accept responsibility when things have gone wrong. I think his rebuilding job in 2011/2012 was nothing less than a miracle from what he done. Last season he assembled a good squad but on a big budget, we didn't have enough players to cope with PL football, some teams that get promoted already have players who can make the grade. We don't really have many that can make the grade. Personally I feel we can do better, it would be harsh to sack him this season though unless results turn sour. He is one of the best things to happen to us but again we can do better

Brilliant post Aherne and sums up my feelings on Malky.
Wonderful man, a real leader of men but Ive had enough of his god awful football and think a change wont be a bad thing.
I would honestly rather be in the championship having a gi at teans, seeing a few goals and having a few celebrationd than watch us play defence v attack and playing for a nil nil with the hope of nicking a goal from a set piece.

I wish he'd mix it up a bit more. Play another striker up front, for instance. Also i'd like to see Hudson have a bit of game time.
Sat Oct 12, 2013 2:15 pm
100% he is the right man for the club.
How can you doubt him. He is working with what he has got. He is new to the job in many ways.
His tactics will keep us in the PL.
I'm sure we beat a big team this season, perhaps you can remember who it was?
8 pts from 7 games is good enough to survive.
Maybe we should attack like Blackpool tried. How did they get on in the end?
Scumsea play tappy tappy boring football - passing for passing sake. Mostly backwards and sideways - would you have a go at them as well?
Stick to your fantasy football kids games on your computers lads. Leave the real managers to get on with their jobs.

Who would you suggest would do a better job then?
Don't fix what isn't broken.

Blackpool beat a number of big teams/got results, what's your point? His tactics are beyond defensive. I defended him but the Newcastle game was farcial, going defensive with one striker whose not a targetman but merely a poacher was absolutely diabolical. Why not go two upfront? Why not go with any pacey wingers such as Noone etc.

We are a newly promoted team, so of course we are going to look second best in the majority of our games! If you honestly think we would dominate some of our games this season in this league, then you don't know much about the game I'm sorry! Malky is definitely the right man as he is getting results against teams far superior to us. We can't do any better than Malky in our current position, as this season is all about surviving, being orgainsed and hard to beat. If we get rid of Malky we will be relegated, if we keep Malky, we have a good chance of surviving and improving further next season. Those of you wanting Malky sacked are absolutely bonkers imo!

This ^ First time i have agreed with you but sensible post
Sat Oct 12, 2013 3:24 pm
You're most likely going to be second best when promoted the the premiership for the first time.
Sat Oct 12, 2013 3:25 pm
The question is without Malky will we do a Blackburn or a Southampton
Sat Oct 12, 2013 3:59 pm
I agree. I don't see how we went from controlling the game away to Fulham to then setting up with everyone behind the ball at home to Newcastle. I hope he has learned from the game last week and has a go at teams that are going to be around us in the table.

Because if Malky set us up more attacking at home to Newcastle, they would have absolutely smashed us with their attacking talent! I know they smashed us in the first half anyway, but that first half showed that Newcastle's team is far superior to ours! Only an idiot would want to attack a team much better than us. It's like when Bobby Gould said he will set his Wales team up to attack Holland and we ended up losing 8-0!
I think some of us really need to realise that there is such a gulf in the Premiership, not even a team like Everton who came in the top 6 last season would set theirselves up to attack a team like Arsenal at home, so what gives us the right to think we can attack a team like Newcastle at home? Against the majority of teams this season, it's all about setting ourselves up to stay in the game for the first hour, then if the opposition get frustrated and we are doing alright, then perhaps try and be a little more adventurous!
Sat Oct 12, 2013 5:05 pm
Personally I like MM and im confident he will keep us up and really hope he stays.
I can see why people have concerns though, we didnt lose enough players who are not good enough or get in players in key positions that needed improving. He leaves subs far to late or usually like for like.
For example what is the point in having Noone on the bench if he is not going to use him? Surely if he is ever going to get a chance it has to be when we are 0-2 against Newcastle.
Part of me can see why some fans and maybe Tan can feel a little frustrated but the way Tan is going about things is not right.

I'm not on about a full on attack I mean try and play it on the floor and get more men up in support. I watched Newcastle get smashed by Everton in the first half a few weeks back becaause Everton got in their faces. If we tried that we could have got something. At home, against Newcastle is a winnable game these days. They have won 3 away games in the last 30 odd I believe. I understand the gulf in class but we need a good home form this season.
Sat Oct 12, 2013 5:19 pm
Even Hull played positive in their game with Newcastle away from home and got the win. Which makes me wonder why we didn't try and attack them until we were 2 down.
Sat Oct 12, 2013 5:48 pm
Fed up if hearing the Malky apologists make excuses for him.
Yes we are a newly promoted club but he had 35m to spend and the buck stops with him and Moody for not spending it very well.
We had a better squad than Hull coming up and they havent spent a third of what we have yet we were second best again them too.
Malky can stick his hoofball where the sun dont shine and f**k off to a championship club where that shit tactic might work for all I care.
Sat Oct 12, 2013 5:51 pm
ive always said I hate malkys brand of football, winds me up everytime, we will have the odd good attacking game then its back to the tired same old defend defend defend and poxy defend, try nick a goal from run of play or a set piece, gratefull for what malkys achieved for us but for me I wouldn't care so much if he left and we had a new manager, ill always u support malky when he is here but in my opinion if he left it aint end of the world

How dare a newly promoted team attack a team who are supposedly better than them.
Absolute disgrace and Tonteg has already written a letter if complaint to the FA to get Hull docked the 3 points for not knowing their place and following premier league protocol.
Sat Oct 12, 2013 6:46 pm
I agree, there is a lack of a plan B, hoofballs and always substitutes far too late...
I bet Gunnarsson will be in the line up for the next game, despite his poor performance in the last few??
Sat Oct 12, 2013 7:01 pm
I don't want him to go because we have built a squad in his image and the new manager may not be able to do much with a team of grafters.
But, if he does go it won't be the end of the world. If we get relegated the fans will blame Tan so the new manager has an easy ride.

I think you'll find Newcastle dominated possession in that game and had more shots at goal than Hull. Steve Bruce has set Hull up to be organised and difficult to beat. They are probably more defensive than us at the moment. A newly promoted club has to be well organised, difficult to beat and take their chances when they get the rare opportunity. Whether you like it or not, it's the only way a newly promoted club can survive in their first season and Malky is doing an excellent job for us so far.

I totally agree with getting in their faces. That's why we struggled in the first half against Newcastle. It was as if the players didn't want to be out there, we lost every individual personal battle and the Newcastle players wanted it more than us. The Man City game is what we want all season, setting ourselves up to be organised and getting in their faces. Gary Neville's analysis about that game was spot on and if we play like that for the majority of the season, we will be fine imo.

Stop talking nonsense its not the "only way a promoted club can survive" at all.
In recent years Southampton, West Ham, Swansea, West Brom, even Norwich under lambert survived without parking the bus and playing percentages.
And West Ham aside they didnt spend 35m either.

I'd call a dog with no teeth broken. Would you? We are about as dangerous at attacking as a dog with no teeth.

It's the first time we have played in the Premier League and we are not in the relegation zone, Yet people have a go at him for his tactics wow. God help us if we were in Sunderland or Crystal Palace's position. Yes we are only 7 games but so far Malky is on the right track therefore shouldn't be questioned. We want survival anything more is a bonus.

In fairness, the only newly promoted team who were able to dominate possession against the majority of teams in their debut Premier League season was Swansea. Norwich played to their strengths using a direct style with Holt in their first season, and Holt was superb for them. But Norwich used the "Malky type of tactics" you disapprove of Polo. Southampton played a pressing game with a high work ethic, which is also similar to us currently. West Ham and West Brom had been in the Premiership for many years and kept the majority of their Premiership squad when they went down, and went straight back up.
Swansea aside, none of those teams were able to dominate possession and all they did was play to their strengths and be as difficult to beat as possible, which is exactly what Malky is currently doing with us. I really am struggling to see what else Malky can do to stop getting the flack he (imo) doesn't deserve.

If we were in the relegation zone people would say 'its only our first season in the Premier League and we are 2 points from safety after 7 games. Malky will eventually get it right'.
How bad does it have to get before we decide to make a change? QPR waited too long and in the end Harry couldn't stop the ship sinking.
