Barry man bitten by False Widow Spider!

Picture of bite on Barry man.False Widows are spreading across the UK!

1) Although they can be quite nasty, false widow spiders are not as dangerous as the black widow

2) False widows have a brown bulbous abdomen with cream coloured markings, often likened to the shape of a skull.

3) The false widow was first recorded in Britain during the 1870s - accidentally shipped from their native Canary Islands.

4) While some claim to have seen the spider as far north as Scotland, sightings have so far been incorrect or unconfirmed

False widow

5) The furthest north the spider has been found is northern tip of East Anglia.

6) False widows don't travel or 'spread' over large distances

7) But Steatoda nobilis's migration north seems to be caused by climate change

8) Female false widows only bite if they feel threatened

9) While male Steatoda are more mobile than their female counterparts there are no reports of males biting

10) If you find what you believe is a false widow – and you don't fancy sharing your house with one – the best way to remove it is via a humane and well-tested method

These have been in this country for years, dont get all the scaremongering in the papers recently :? the hobo spider can have a nasty bite as well, all depends on the persons reaction to the bite.
I'd keep it in a jar if i found one in my house, I've got two tarantulas and 3 praying mantis :)
I was shoocked when someone told me about the scorpions over here, but they have been over here for years also, only in kent i think.

Apparently these False widows can grow the size of a dog & love to rape a bit of face if threatened.

As you can see below Dai John from Miskin, had an encounter and is currently undergoing surgery at south glam hospital.

My thoughts are with you Dai.

At the start of the summer, I simply erected clearly worded signs prominently displayed around my property stating 'No Spiders, Wasps or Murderers'. I am delighted to say that thus far I have neither been bitten, stung or murdered. Based on the success of this exercise, on Sunday I shall be erecting my 'Katy Perry Compulsory Tit-Shag' signage. Ding f*cking Dong.

Seen a few pages with this story, it's scaremongering tbh. there even putting the wrong picture's of the spider, the star got a picture of the huntsman spider  . this guy prob had a bad reaction to it or it got infected because he didn't clean it.

taken a comment from the replies to the story from someone on there that collects spiders
Noble false widow (Steatoda nobilis) has neurotoxic venom, it affects the nerves not the muscles! They don't jump either.

The poor chap has necrosis - usually caused by a bacterial infection of the soft tissues - not particularly related to any spider bite in the UK and takes many hours to take hold, longer than it usually takes to 'get home'. The doctors clearly knew what the problem was because they gave him antibiotics that kill bacteria and not antivenom that counteracts venom.

If you get bitten by a venomous spider, which can be lethal, you are supposed to keep as calm as possible due to blood flow. For instance, if you panic, the heart beats faster thus the venom flowing through the body quickly causing problems on the way . If it's slow heart beats, it takes a bit longer to flow through your body which gives the emergency services more time to get to you. :thumbright:

"If somebody is bitten by a false widow, don’t panic.

"You treat it just as you would a wasp sting, for which people usually take anti-histamines available over-the-counter at a pharmacists.

"Keep an eye on the symptoms though. If you have any swelling or pain that doesn’t stay localised, then go and see a doctor."
