Bluebirds chief executive Simon Lim today refused to comment when asked whether Malky Mackay was asked to resign from his post at Cardiff City

Simon Lim refused to deny Malky Mackay resignation question

Cardiff City chief executive Simon Lim has refused to comment when quizzed directly as to whether Malky Mackay was asked to resign as Bluebirds boss.

A huge question mark appears to have been thrown over Mackay’s future following Vincent Tan’s decision to ostracise the manager’s trusted number two Iain Moody.

The news saw many bookmakers immediately slash the odds on Mackay becoming the next Premier League manager to get push.

By lunchtime Mackay had been installed as favourite to be the next Premier boss to go, parachuted ahead of Fulham’s Martin Jol, Newcastle’s Alan Pardew and Crystal Palace’s Ian Holloway.

The unwanted speculation will alarm Bluebirds fans, for whom Mackay has become a huge favourite following his brilliant work in taking City into the top flight.

Asked specifically about behind the scenes rumours claiming Mackay had been asked to go, City chief executive Lim declined to issue a denial.

“No comment.” was the only thing he would say on the matter.

On Tuesday night, Mackay was rated no more than a 33-1 shot to be the next Premier manager to go from his job. But that changed dramatically after it was revealed Mackay’s No2 Moody, the man responsible for Bluebirds transfers, had been replaced by unknown 23-year-old Alisher Apsalyamov, from Kazakhstan.
