Debt to equity will be final nail in the coffin

Wed Oct 09, 2013 11:14 pm

Thats when the club truly becomes Tan's plaything and we become Cardiff Dragons FC. Who is there are board level to object Tan's wishes then? Anyone further down the line will be put on gardening leave and replaced with someone that does as they're told and not challenges those further up.

I think we should be careful what we wish for.

James, I'm not a financial expert but isn't that when the club become 'debt free' and Tan HAS to achieve in order to ever get his money back or make a profit? :ayatollah:

I don't believe for a second we'll be debt free Sven. There is no way on Earth that a businessman like Tan is going to do so without any fallback.

People forget that when the debt to equity conversion takes place the club will then be on a sound financial footing and can start making progress in terms of other financial avenues. Tan will be the majority holder.

Whats stopping Tan taking out loans, as Hicks and Gillett did at Liverpool with a refinancing agreement, against the club, which at that point will be financially healthy on a gamble?

Either Tan will do it or a new investor brought in by Tan with more funds will do it. Of course loads of clubs play this game of taking out loans and paying them off plus interest as agreed to make it to the top but then Leeds and other clubs have failed miserably.

Also, where is the extra funds coming from for the stadium extension? Is it a mortgage with more debt? I just can't see Tan doing all this without making sure he gets his fallback. He's already moaning about over expenditure by £15m now so there is no chance he is going to just keep pumping more cash in.
