EXCLUSIVE: Mackay will not resign after Cardiff owner Tan replaces his right-hand man with son's 23-year-old friend.

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay will not resign from the South Wales club despite owner Vincent Tan’s shocking decision to replace head of recruitment Iain Moody with a 23-year-old friend of his own son.

The Barclays Premier League new boys are in turmoil this morning after Tan replaced Mackay’s right-hand man – responsible for bringing 25 players to the club – with a young Kazakhstani who was painting walls at the stadium until three months ago.

Sportsmail can today reveal the outrageous events that have led to the appointment of Alisher Apsalyamov, a young man with absolutely no experience of football and who attended the same Swiss finishing school as Tan’s own son.

It is understood, though, that although Mackay – a hero in the Wales capital – is devastated by the developments of the last 24 hours, he has no intention of walking away and intends to be in charge of Cardiff when they place their next game at Chelsea on October 19.

Sources in South Wales revealed this morning that Mackay’s relationship with Tan has deteriorated steadily in recent weeks and that the talented Scottish manager – who led the club to the Championship title last season – has been uncomfortable about the increasing presence of Apsalyamov for a while.

Initially brought in to assist the club’s stadium maintenance team three months ago, Apsalyamov was painting walls initially. More recently, though, the 23-year-old has recently been watching Cardiff’s games on a laptop as if to prepare himself for a new role.

Yesterday the situation finally came to a head when Moody was told he was being suspended. After a period of confusion, he was then unsuspened and instead placed on gardening leave until the end of the season.

Staff were then informed that Apsalyamov was taking over his role, something that is understood to have left Mackay furious.

The Cardiff manager was not available for comment this morning.

Having taken over at the club in June 2011, the former West Ham and Watford defender led Cardiff to the Carling Cup Final in February 2012 and then to promotion last season. He is understandably revered in the City.

Tan, on the other hand, is the controversial businessman who, despite investing heavily in the club, remains unpopular in some quarters after changing the kit from blue to red and at one stage threatening to change the name.

His relationship with Mackay has been strained since last season when he appointed his friend Simon Lim as the club’s chief executive. Moral amongst staff at the club is known to have deteriorated since that time.

Moody has been a key part of Mackay’s backroom team, spending two years under him in Wales as well as assisting the Scot at Watford.

Mackay frequently cited Moody’s influence in the marquee summer signings of Steven Caulker, Gary Medel, Kevin Theophile-Catherine and Andreas Cornelius, highlighting the extreme diligence Moody puts into Cardiff’s scouting and recruitment programmes.

Moody’s departure is sure to have shocked and disappointed Mackay, though the club did not respond last night to requests for an explanation. Club sources did, however, confirm to Sportsmail that Moody has been suspended.

On a biography on a social networking site, Apsalyamov admits he has no previous experience in football but it is believed he has spent several weeks shadowing Moody.

The development comes just days after Mackay refused to discuss the recent row that erupted between Tan and the players over end-of-season bonuses.

Absolute fuking joke of a situation. We got some no mark 23year old knowbody as head of recruitment of a premier league club. Cant wait to find out what tan has in store for us next. Even if moody deserved to be removed from the job, then you dont replace him with someone who has no experience. You get someone in who knows the job... Especially when its a premier league club. Farcical.

I'm waiting for Magners and co to say "It's still Cardiff City"... I highly highly doubt that someone who has no knowledge of football and is qualified at City & Guilds is going to work the wonders that Moody has done for us.

Next will be the seat colours, then Peters Pies will be swapped with Jimmy Choo shoes & then our club will become The Cardiff Dragons... But hey... As long as we have Cardiff in our name ey?

There’s a guy who posts on a Norwich forum who works in the media & he just posted this about Cardiff,

Reports are that Iain Moody was leaking confidential information to the press and that is the reason he has gone - the 23 year old lad is a strange move but it is considered unlikely he'll be given the job permanently and he is filling in until a long term successor can be found.
Also heard that Malky was consulted over the decision and he agreed that Moody should go if he was talking to the press behind the club's back.

he might be rich but that doesnt stop him being a buffoon of the highest order. He obviously likes life in the championship because its this kind of behaviour that will get us back there asap. If i was MM i would walk out of general principle until moody is re-instated. maybe then he will see, but i seriously doubt it.
