Jordon Mutch

Sun Oct 06, 2013 10:49 pm

Surely he has to start our next game? I have previously said that I believe in the future, Mutch can potentially become an England international. He made a difference at Fulham, but yesterday I thought his performance was faultless and everything good went through him. When on song, Mutch barely has a weakness in his game and he will continue to get better and better.

Couldn't agree more, he changed the game around!

I agree. Reminded me of Yaya Toure with his runs from midfield!

Who would you drop for him?

can be either kim or gunnersson for me.

Would also drop campbell.

I would say Gunnarsson on current form. Gunnarsson is a good holding midfielder, but his touch and passing occassionally lets him down when driving forwards. However, as our next game is away to Chelsea, I would drop Kim and then bring him on as an impact sub for the last 20-30 minutes. A middle 3 of Medel, Gunnarsson and Mutch may sound negative, but Mutch showed Saturday the problems he can cause driving forwards and those 3 will give us a very solid centre midfield to at least keep us in the game imo.

I don't totally hold with the current clamber for Mutch to start. You need to watch what he does off the ball to fathom why the manager doesn't start him.

He doesn't track back, is never tight enough to whoever he's marking and in the Fulham game he gave the ball away at least 3 times before his wonder goal.

He did make one run from inside our half on Saturday where everything opened up for him and he just kept going. At the end of it though he fluffed his shot/pass.

Interestingly, I was talking to a couple of Birmingham supporters at last seasons away game and they were laughing their heads off at the fact that we'd taken Mutch. Seemed like they didn't rate him there.

Not sure myself that he's the finished article yet. Certainly not as a central midfield player.

He took advantage of the chance and put himself within a shout of being called into the first 11.

To be honest I can't recall Mutch ever being at fault for any goal we have conceded, he plays more attacking than Gunnarsson, Medel or even Whitts last season, his job has been to create and attack this season with Medel and Gunnarsson sitting deeper and he drops deep to get on the ball when necessary, plus we have all seen him put in his fair share of crunching tackles to win possession back.

He gave the ball away a couple of times at Fulham but he was trying to create, he put in a lovely ball for Campbell which should have been a goal and apart from late in the game Saturday when the ball got caught between his feet, I didn't see him lose the ball once.

Also, the majority of Birmingham fans were fuming when we signed Mutch from them, I remember checking their messageboard and I was smiling when they were devastated at losing him. I know many City fans will back me up that Birmingham fans weren't happy we took Mutch off them at all.

For me, Mutch has everything necessary to be a class player, he has size, presence, footballing ability, two good feet, and I honestly believe he will eventually break into the England squad, particularly when Gerrard and Lampard retire. I can't think of many other good, young centre midfielders coming through for England aside from Ross Barkley, Tom Cleverley and Jack Wilshire. Mutch is still only 21 and I think he will eventually become a fantastic player.

I think Mutch has potential but currently I agree that he doesn't 'track back' and there will be a reason Malky picks others ahead of him from the start. However, as an 'impact' sub when we need to push forward (as in the Newcastle and Fulham games) then hi looking the part at the moment

If Malky does choose him, my choice to 'rest' would be Gunnarsson (he looked out of sorts all game vs Newcastle) and I would also bring Hudson in for the 'Hoofer' Turner (so many wasted balls that get shoved straight back down our throats) :ayatollah:

I felt he fluffed his lines when he should have put Maynard through near the end but telegraphed his pass to Williamson but at least he had made the drive forward to put him in that position to make the pass.

Never knock the likes of Mutch or Whitts for trying through balls that dont come off. id rather they had 50% pass sucession but try the more difficult attacking passes than 90% playing safe passes.

Theres not a player in the world who gets every single slide pass spot on even Xavi and Iniesta dont get it right all the time.

Mutch doesn't track back.

Great. Im fed up of all 10 players tracking back. It'd be nice to have a player who likes to be in the oppositions half for an extended period of time.

Agreed.

10 players in our own half behind the ball. Fed up of it.

You're right, I forgot about that, he tried to slide Maynard through and as you say, he telegraphed it a little and it got cut out, but that's what I like with Mutch, he's not afraid to have a go and try something. Hopefully Mutch will start at Chelsea and have another good game. As you can tell with the way I bang on about him, I'm a big fan of his.

I have noticed. His girlfriend (or boyfriend, he looks a bit fruity) should be very concerned :D
