EUROPA LEAGUE CAUSING THEM PROBLEMS?

Sun Oct 06, 2013 5:47 pm

So Swansea and Spurs both lost today to mediocre teams after their Europa league fixtures on Thursday.

Some honesty lads don't you think it is causing problems for their league fixtures?

Opinions welcome

I think Southampton have proved this season that they are a little bit better than mediocre

I'd hardly call Southampton mediocre....

Laudrup sited fact played 7 games in 21 days! Must have some effect?

West ham and southampton are hardly mediocre..

Spurs' squad is huge so it shouldn't impact those fools. They haven't bought well (Soldado), but that's another story.

The jacks on the other hand have a paper thin squad and that idiot Laudrup won't play their best player, Britton.

Would have fancied the saints whenever they played the jacks. As for spurs, just one of those results that this seasons PL seems to be throwing up. Good to see instead of teams simply being cannon fodder for the elite

This is where some teams competing for bottom 3 will pick up points - are the jacks playing thursday b4 they play us ? lets hope its important crucial game for them

We've won the two previous Premier League games following Europa League games, both away from home, and we could easily have won today as we dominated from the 25th to the 83rd minute without quite getting the run of the ball.

So no, I don't think your premise is correct at all. :thumbright:

Allan and I dont agree with that much, but I have to agree with your post as I have said all along, good luck to the Jacks in the Europa League, keeping getting more games as soon or later it will tell on your squad and hurt you in the Premier League.

Paper thin?

Here are just some of the players who didn't start today: Tremmel, Williams, Taylor, Tiendalli, De Guzman, Pozuelo, Hernandez, Britton, Vasquez.

If that's a paper thin squad then our definitions are wildly different.

Jinks, Southampton prob at best might reach 10th come May (having quite a good season so far) and West Ham's only other win was against us and they will prob struggle this season.

On what planet are Southampton mediocre?

Re: EUROPA LEAGUE CAUSING THEM PROBLEMS

Sun Oct 06, 2013 6:31 pm

It's just an excuse for poor form. The Europa league does not effect players performances, they have at least two recovery days. When we play in the championship we have 7 extra games when you count the league cup games, all with a smaller squad.

Re: EUROPA LEAGUE CAUSING THEM PROBLEMS

Hhhhhhhmmmmmm let's think ???????!

Teams that have to travel around Europe, play twice a week instead of once, have less time on the training pitch to prepare for their league games, bound to be more tired, bound to pick up more injuries, would this them have an effect on their league form especially as the season goes on ?????

Hhhhmmmmmmmmmmm I wonder, I'll go and ask a brain Surgeon

Re: EUROPA LEAGUE CAUSING THEM PROBLEMS?

As an honest response the simple answer is - I don't think it is affecting us yet. We had enough quality on the pitch to have won that today, but had no luck at all. Dyer hit the post and the ball rolled across the line and out of play the other side and the Southampton keeper made a worldy off a Bony header. Speaking to one of their supporters on the way back to the car he conceded that they were lucky. However, it's still no points out of the game. If you ask me the same question in eight weeks time, maybe the answer would be different.

But so do all the other Championship teams have an extra seven games, so that doesn't make sense ??????

So what would you call them then ?

The team who only got back in the Premier League last season and finished 14th on goal difference above two other teams with 41 points.

I would call that mediocre.

Why are we going on last year? They're playing this season, not last season. :?

They're a team that has invested heavily in the transfer market & are currently in the top 4 I believe.. Whilst they are not top 4 material, you can hardly describe them as mediocre.

Either this is a very poor attempt at getting bites and hits, or you are spectacularly naive about the premiership this season.

I'd say they were a top 10 team this season... FAR from mediocre.

Fair response but I must point out that your current league position has been explained by a few jacks due to the opposition you have played so far ie. United, Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal so the point I was asking to everyone is do people think that the Europa League games is taking its toll being that today you have lost to Southampton who are not a top side and in fact not even considered a top half team.

Sounds fair enough to me. It'll be in the longer term it would affect you if any, and if you win the next 2 then you could really rest players for the last 2 games.

It will be more of a problem if the injuries start mounting up, 1-2 long term ones and a few more medium term ones will put more pressure on the rest of the squad and the problems then could mount up. Not fair to judge on today as from what I can see you deserved something form a difficult game. You've got an easier run of fixtures now (excluding your trip to the CCS of course  ) and SHOULD pick up enough points to climb out of trouble.

They finished 14th and just 41 points, apart from 7 games played I don't think there is much else to base the view on.

Liverpool spend heavily most seasons but are not considered a top 4 team, I wonder why that is, oh I know they don't finish in the top 4

But because they spend money and have started the season very well I guess Liverpool should now be called a top 4 side

I remember Blackpool having a fantastic start by their standards in the 2010-11 season and still got relegated

I've already stated that I don't class Southampton as a top 4 team, learn to read correctly.

Yes, why are you going on last season? They have new players and a manager in his first full season. They've made a great start and expected to be much improved on their debut premiership season.

Are you judging Cardiff this season on last season?

If you don't consider Liverpool to be in with a chance of the top 4 this season, then you're even more naive than I thought.

I'd consider Southampton as strong as Swansea, if not stronger. Certainly not mediocre.

Although I do laugh at the fact that everyone else disagreed with you, yet you only picked at my comment.

You're the one having the mare again Carl, Southampton a mediocre side.

Mind you, it's about as accurate as most of the other updates on here.

I'll say it again though.. Every other poster has agreed with me on this thread, yet you choose mine to start going off at. What a surprise.
