A forum for all things Cardiff City

As someone who was there that night, things never really sat easily with me as to how things were handled by the police. It was certainly very different to other visits to your place. I'm just wondering whether there is something in this I stumbled across, I refer you to the 5th and 6th post in the thread. It does make you wonder? And please, no stupid "throwing seats at kids posts" etc. It's mainly for people who were there and who remember the derbies of the 80's and early 90's.

I was one of the last people to get out of the lower grandstand with my dad...
I was 13 and and it was a eye opener to me as a fairly impressionable kid.
I have seen some worse scraps involving Cardiff in the years after that night.
Can't really comment on the jacks, the most I've seen of their mob was the sprinters in Canton and the Notorious Youth Away days video

What I remember the most from that night though was that it was cold.
And my pops decided to wear his waterproof thermal all in one he used for fishing.
It stank and looked hideous. "Don't worry Ant,no one will see me"
The words rang true when the British media had every camera in the ground pointed at the stand..

It was mad putting the jacks basically in with the Cardiff fans
Eye opener that night for me. I was young and thought, f**k me this is mental

A lot of children in that section and a few lads. Bob bank invaded to get at the jacks, lucky for them we didn't

Of course it was baz, but did the police do it on purpose? Knowing it would kick off in front of the TV cameras so that they had a reason to ban us all from travelling?

Stop trying to point score. Thats not the reason I posted this. Seriously, do you think the OB may have orchestrated it?

Who knows, nothing would surprise me where football is concerned

Simple "No' I was there (Bob Bank, as usual) and it was just a case of mistakenly believing your lot could behave well away from the main element of Cardiff supporters at a time when when the ground was in shite order; and they got it soooo wrong
Our fans were no saints back in the day but I never saw them attacking women, children, the old and infirm. It left an indelible mark on me as a youngster and it is why I have
NO respect for any of your fans that even tries to justify events
I saw perfectly law-abiding and reasonable people around me that night who would have been happy to take the law into their own hands
Your fans were a disgrace and there is no getting away from it

You have to point fingers at the OB ad Club Officials for the arrangement....
Don't think the Jacks set out to throw seats at children (who would?)
It's just one of those things that happens at the time.... Esp early 90s.
No Jack I'm Antony from Pentwyn bud

A post about hooliganism started by someone who was giving the self righteous bollocks just a few evenings ago. I know it'll come back with observations etc, however if you so dislike it so much, why be a hypocrite and bring it up?

My mates old man was the cop in charge that night It was his first and last match. He made the decision based on the number of away fans that usually attended ninian park. He was advised that Swansea would bring more but decided that the grandstand would be big enough.

I went on a night out in Swansea not long after that. There was a night club called Marthas.
On the TV screens they were showing a video recording of the Swansea fans from that game. (someone must have took a video recorder into the ground) "Jack army"etc.
I remember Phil Suarez went nuts "get off the pitch get off the pitch etc"
That was where the chant "YOU ONLY THROW SEATS AT CHILDREN" came from

Nah that was the 1990 cup game. 'Speiberg' was Marthas video man and went around with the Swansea fans all day filming the violence and then played it in Marthas that night. The police just turned up and confiscated the video! A bit like rubbing salt into the wounds as we got soundly tonked that day!

Fair play to you admitting being 'tonked' in cup mate. Nobody is invincible. What I remember bout Ninian game is Bob Bank going berserk because it was obvious that oaps and kids were under attack in Grandstand and the stewards opening gates on Bob Bank to let Cardiff onto pitch

Worse bit of policing I have ever encounted unbelievable decision. One thing though many on here make a big moral stance about throwing seats at children but didnt you lot do the same at brum?
