I saw our under 18 team outclass the jacks yesterday and we have some quality youngsters, but i have heard a disturbing story that celtic are set to snap up 2 of them when they are out of contract.
Most of the under 18's and under 21's are frustrated at Malkay only being interested in the first team, these youngsters are the clubs future,we lost joe ledley to celtic ,i pray we dont lose more of the best youngsters for nothing, the club must tie them into deals to stop them leaving for nothing.

One of the best Academy managers in the country is now the head of our academy, I wouldn't worry at all.
Malky does care about the younger teams too?

I had it from a good source that a number of youngsters are frustrated at being held back by the clubs policy of using the under 21 development side to give game time to first team squad members, the youngsters are keen to progress but a lack of opportunitys not money will see the club lose some of our best talent.

Kadeem Harris
Tommy O'Sullivan
Theo Wharton
Curtis Watkins
Declan John
Brad Wickam
These are 6 youngsters being ruined by the club that i can think of we could lose the lot to other clubs for nothing.
Sun Oct 06, 2013 4:28 pm
Declan John made his first team debut last season and premiership debut this season & was called up to Wales... How the hell is that ruining his career?!
Sun Oct 06, 2013 4:30 pm
You're off ur head mate.
Sun Oct 06, 2013 4:31 pm
If they are good enough they will come through We are a premiership team now and the standard of our youngsters has to improve From what I have seen we only have a couple of youngsters who may make the grade at top level. We have many who can make the level at the Div 1 and 2 level but that is not good enough now
the Jason Perry and Scott Young type would not get a look in these days if they were coming through the ranks

Kadeem Harris should be given a chance in the 1st team otherwise I can see him being snatched up.
Other clubs give their youngsters a go - why not us

Malky doesn't care about the youth team? Ralls? Wharton? O'Sullivan? Nugent? John?

Harris should have started by now so the OP does have a point. Malky however does not take risks, is stubborn and stuck in his ways and the sooner our fans accept Tommy Smith will start instead of Harris who is explosive and can add a threat on the counter attack the better.
You're preaching to a fan base besotted with the manager OP.

Exactly what im on about,Malkay did a great job getting us promoted, but our under 21 side is being used as a reserve side being loaded with senior pros on the first team fringe, these kids need to be blooded to find out who among them can make the grade,at least play them in the development side to see if they are worthy of consideration for the first team squaud.

Because it's our first season in the Premier League, so we need stability?
Sun Oct 06, 2013 7:05 pm
we need to blood some of these youngsters and those who made an impact last season, otherwise we'll become too predictable plus you can't play the same 11 each week, it's going to cause long term injuries to star players

Isn't there a limit on the no of over age players allowed in a development team?
Mon Oct 07, 2013 8:03 am
^^^ yeh I thought development was a mix of youth and 1st team?

If they're good enough they'll get a deal and and get the chance to progress.
As pointed out Declan John is a fine example.
Any of them throw their toys out the pram and go to Celtic suggests a lack of ambition to me.
Not the first time Celtic have been "linked" with youngsters though......
Mon Oct 07, 2013 10:52 am
I see more of the under 18 and under 21 sides than most and there are regularly celtic scouts watching them,i will bet you anything at least 2 of those i named are at celtic within 2 years, playing first team football, and city fans will once more be moaning, there are talented youngsters at city, play them or lose them.
Mon Oct 07, 2013 9:06 pm
Sadly the formation we have doesn't have wingers.

You can't throw players of that age into a City team that's working for hard earned points. There's not many u-18 players playing in the Prem, you've got to be pretty exceptional to do that & we can't afford that luxury at the moment.
The one exception I'd like to see given a run is Harris though. What a perfect time to bring him on against Newcastle, second half!?
Tue Oct 08, 2013 6:23 pm
I am not saying put threm in the first team i am saying lets utilise the under 21 system to give them game time or even loan them out.
Tue Oct 08, 2013 6:40 pm
I would say the better way to go is to loan them out to lower league sides. Most of them are only too keen to get their hands on a youngster with potential and has been the route for many success stories with that spurs kid Andros Townsend being the most obvious example.Putting too many kids in your first team is a recipe for relegation.

I agree with you,too many in at one time could cost the club and ruin the confidence of the kids, but loaning them is a good option,Fraizer Campbell,Beckam, and others have benefited from loans to other clubs.
