Home and away formations

We need to be more unpredictable .

Away 4-2-3-1 probably works and will gain us valuable points .
The team lining up like this is the right way IMO

------------------ Marshall ------------------

Catherine---caulker---turner----Taylor

------------ medel----gunnarsson----------

Odemwingie--------kimbo------- whitts ---

------------------Campbell-----------------

It allows us to contain teams and hit on a counter attack

BUT at home we need to be more adventurous . Personally I would drop gunnarsson at home and play a 4-1-3-2 formation using width and pace . Maybe even drop kimbo for the more direct noone. We definately need 2 up front !

-------------------- Marshall ---------------------

Catherine------caulker----turner-----Taylor-

------------------------medel---------------------

Kimbo/noone-----mutch--------whittingham

----------odemwingie-------Campbell-----------

There has been a few times over the last few games where we have won the ball and shot forward only for our players to have to turn back and play a negative ball backwards because we have nobody up front to making runs to support the attacking player . Now in the championship you tend to get away with it but in the premiership the defenders are a different kettle of fish as was shown today .
We had 3/4/5 attacks which came to nothing because we didn't have the support play to help them and at this level that is inexcusable , if you watched newcastles attacks they swarmed all over us and created chances . Sorry but even though they seemed average today , newcastle showed us they are still a step ahead of us quality wise and tactically better than us . We are just too predictable and today they done there homework and we were worked Out from the first whistle :( sorry but it's the truth .
Out wide they focused on Taylor , IMO our weak point and attacked down the right flank as often as possible with gouffran running past him almost at will . Remy and cisse sat off our two centre backs near to cabaye pretty much in a playmaker position which allowed them to overrun medel and gunnarsson and attack turner head on which led to the goals . They knew they couldn't beat us in the air so they came through the middle with cut backs from wide rather than crosses .
It was a brilliant game plan first half which in all honesty worked to perfection , it took us until the break to work out how to combat it and that is not good enough .
We need to be a lot more savey if we are to survive .
It was a disappointing day but I think it is probably the best result for us this season so far because we should have learned sooo much from today that we can go into the next few fixtures knowing our abilities and how we can play rather than just defend for our lives and hope for the best .

Ive got all the faith in the world in this squad , just hope they do what they are capable of and not be scared of any fucker because on our day we are a match for anybody :ayatollah:

We won't beat many Premiership teams with one up front, either home or away.

I think last weeks first half at Fulham was the best football Cardiff have played for a long time. It was noticeable how getting stuck in and pushing more than one player forward lifted the whole team. We don't have a team of Premier League stars but we could have a team of real battlers. What's the difference between losing having had a real go at the opposition and losing by sitting back. Just waiting to see how games pan out at this level is asking for trouble. Yesterdays first half is a good example of what could happen if we don't go into every game intending to make our own stamp on it. One up front at home or away is inevitably going to see us go behind. The match against Newcastle was over at half time, no "plucky second half performance" is going to succeed often at this level.
