Injured Cardiff City striker Andreas Cornelius still unable to join in training sessions

Andreas Cornelius is stretchered off injured against Accrington Stanley

Danish striker Andreas Cornelius is not yet ready to play and has not been able to join in training yet.

Cornelius has twice suffered an ankle injury this season. The first incident came during pre-season training and the second against Accrington in the Capital One Cup.

The former FC Copenhagen player is running out on the training pitches with physios, but is unlikely to be fit for next Thursday’s friendly against Southern League Merthyr Town at Penydarren Park (7.30pm).

“Andreas is working with the physios, but is not close to playing yet,” says Mackay. “His is getting through individual work, but is not yet being re-introduced into mixed training.”

Joe Mason, Rudy Gestede and Tommy Smith, though, could allo be among the players on duty against Merthyr for the midweek friendly on their new 3G synthetic pitch.

While Cornelius is working his way back to fitness, Scottish left-back Simon Lappin looks set to sign for League One Sheffield United.

“That move is subject to clearance, but there is a good chance he might be signing for Sheffield United on loan for a month,” says Mackay.

Lapping is the Cardiff player out on loan, following Ben Nugent (at Brentford), Joe Ralls (at Yeovil) and Kevin McNaughton (at Bolton Wanderers).

I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do when he's match fit. Not liking these injuries but MM clearly has seen his potential. Jury's out till then.

It's a good thing we don't need him at the moment.

I think he'll come good but it's all about blending him in. Luckily we don't need him right now

soft tissue ankle injuries are among the longest to heal and the most painful - had a few myself and they are worse than breaks.

I hope he doesn't get constantly injured and end up like Maynard last season.

Look at last season, Malky didn't unleash Kim-Bo for ages so I think its not that bad, we got Campbell, Maynard, Odimwingie plus Ruday and Mason. :ayatollah:

we need a big man upfront, when we play 442, thought City didn't turn up first half today, better second half, but malky should have changed it to 442 nothing to lose in seeing half. Mutch played well came on half time for kim. Officials were poor again. bellamy needn't have bothered coming on, 20 mins I expect you to bust a gut

We need him ASAP, as we have forked out millions and we have not that much quality upfront, we need to know if this lad is good.

Exactly. Unless you're a massive team, you don't spend 8m for 'one for the future'. Personally, I think he'll come good.

I hear lots of people saying what a waste of money etc.
Any player can get injured at any time it's just unlucky & bad timing for him & us.
Let him heal properly, bring him back slowly & let's see what happens.

:ayatollah: Spoke to him on Saturday, he says it's healing well and he hopes to play sooner rather than later. Nice lad.
