Advanced development center

My son been playing for the adc at ccfc for 3 and a half years now he was instructed to go to the house of sport for a trial to determind weather he stays for under 12 adc.The trial was out of 88 kids on tiny pitches and they want around 16 kids to keep.

We have been waiting over 2 weeks to here from ccfc which should of only taken 1 week for them to get back to us .

I have phoned the relavant people and left answer phone messages to find out whats going on with no reply.

I find the whole thing disgusting to treat my son and other kids like that we arnt the only ones waiting.

My son has turned down other teams to play for the team he loves and for it to now end like this after all the comitment we both gave over more than 3 years traveling as far as swansea and monmouth on a work afternoon is just wrong.

Hope in the future they sort things out so no other kids get treated like utter shit.

Will keep trying to get an answer from the club we still love but its left a real bad taste in my mouth. For a so called professional club to treat kids like this is awful.Any body no anything about this.

I am honestly not on a wind up but a mate of mine coaches kids football in the Swansea valley and he said several kids have been through this with ccfc it's cost parents a packet as well because he said they have to pay for training , kit , travelling etc then get dumped and are no better players than when they started , mate said it's as if they cast a wide net and hope some come through , not nice for the families or kids who end up resenting it though

Like I said honestly not a wind up , just what I was told

Bricky my boy was in Cardiff ADC FOR 4 years and was told he was Academy material but never sent him down there until Bristol Rovers came in for him then they were all over him like a rash.
He spent 6 weeks with the Academy scoring 6 goals in 8 games and in 1 game Birmingham City also asked about him. After 6 weeks he was told you have done well and thanks for attending the last 6 weeks but goodbuy, i still think now 3 years later i should have taken him to Rovers or Birmingham.

At the moment he is playing for Merthyr who play in the JPL League over the bridge but now the Welsh FA have stepped in to say a Welsh club can't play in England :x so the whole team looks like its going to play at Hereford where they want an all Welsh team to play for them.... madness or what.

Good luck to your boy and got with your gut instinct :ayatollah:

Yeah was talking about this with a guy this morning, Merthyr won't get involved to help out the younger side, and apparently they are doing very well. Sad to see talent going unnoticed

My boy was at the same trials, u12's, we had an email from them last week (stock email) basically thanks but no thanks. I agree that the trial itself was shocking! Crowded pitches, kids everywhere, never seen anything like it.. A complete waste of time.
Maybe no news Is good news for your boy if you haven't heard anything....

My lad is in the U13 squad and there was a parents information evening at the CCS last Monday. Training started this week and I believe the U12's also started. The new set-up has meant three county 'ADC' centres have been condensed into a single Development Squad that can train three times a week. This is obviously a big improvement as by admission, they were simply spread too thin across a wide area and so quality was inconsistent. So the new set-up means that the number of players have been dramatically reduced but quality in terms of coaches and training time has gone up to where it should be, essentially looking like the feeder squad to the Academy. BS76 is spot on as you need to look wider if you think your lad can play at a decent level so you have to look at other clubs and their set-ups, some of which are excellent. We all want them to be involved with the club we love but the really important thing is simply that the lads are enjoying their football. Breaking into the Academy is tough as some of the boys have been involved since they were six but I think the new City set-up was overdue and can only be a good thing. Also, if your boys haven't been selected this time then make sure you stay in contact, as boys do start to drop out of the system as they get a bit older. Waddle's right (that was painful) as the thing that has to be absolutely avoided is them resenting the game as they've had a knock-back. I've friends whose lads have gone all the way through only to be eventually let go, which is very tough but football is brutal like that. The new City Dev set-up caters for the different pathways through football including securing places at other clubs if the boys are good but not for City, which is a good thing. Good luck to both of your boys and make sure they keep playing and enjoying the game.

lads i have read this thread with interest . there are more youngsters playing football than ever before so the competition is far greater than ever before . so few promising youngsters will ever make the grade so when i see posts like this i do worry as i 'v e been there before with my lad

so we look at the premier league so why do we have so very few young bristish players making the grade ?

looking at the posts on here lot's of noises about our academy .

My feelings is that if your lad/ lass is a decent football player at a young age get them into futsal especially under 13 . Futsal will improve a childs technique and will make them a better football player at a later stage

get your lad / lass involved with futsal it will make a difference to there football development

Wise words. Fundamentally, we are 6 years behind as good old fashioned ball-control has been favoured for athletism (read as muscle off ball) for decades in our present system. Futsal increases ball skill/control for outfield players. Quality coaching from a parks level is also key from the base of the 'pyramid'. The step up for 11 year olds to adult pitches also had meant less ball time which is madness. Change is coming from ex-pros now coaching lobbying for the changes that our peers have had for many years. Greg Dyke will be instrumental in this I hope. Don't get me started on the FAW as these things should be front and foremost of their doddering minds. Its our youngsters footballing future potential at stake here.
