When people's posts are being edited to link to other sites for the owner's gain... I don't think that's right some how & I won't "ignore it".

It's called backlinking mate. A website with as much traffic as this this can boost another websites search engine rank if it contains links to it.

It's one of the reasons why I have my website in my signature. It's all part of the Google ecosystem.

It's a cheeky but very necessary way to get your website ranking higher on Google, that's why websites like this are prone to spammers dropping links to their dodgy websites.

Due to the amount of traffic this web site generates, Google will think that this site is a valuable source of information and therefore any links to websites on this website must mean that those sites are also a valuable source of information.

It's really hard to get good backlinks to boost your rank, so that fact that Annis allows people to do it on here makes him a complete and utter legend!

I have to agree with chucks its annoying clicking a link off here to watch a video clip only to get redirected and then having to click the link to watch it all over again. Not that I'm on here much anymore but that sites linked all the time when I have a gander at this forums threads now and then.
