Please don't feed the troll on ANOTHER thread for him to ruin

Note to Troll; Please don't reply, you'll only drag it down to your level. Every thread you try to derail I'll delete all your posts. Lets not go down that road again

* you're right though Paul, Medel is the bargain of the summer. He's verging on world class. What a signing

yeah, apologies.

Fulhams has been the only game i havent seen fully this season (caught the second half) he doesnt really do anything complecated, but goes everything well! thought he was superb against spurs last week, and makes some of the players around him up their game. Gunnersson for instance is having a good start to the season.

On the topic of malky and bargains, odemwinge and KTC are both looking great value for money, though its no suprise to anyone what you will get out of a fully fit Odemwinge.

Yes hes spend a lot of money in key areas, and im sure most people here would have liked a bit more creativity down the flanks, and possibly another striker, but im glad we havent done what Palace have done this season.

Bring in 1 or maybe 2 players in january, and in my opinion this side is good enough to stay up with something to spare. Southampton finished 14th last season on 41 points, i see no reason we cant finish in a similar position, though i think it would take more like 45 points to get there.

As much as it irks me,I could tell after 1 or 2 of your games Medel was a bit special.I've been reading the Canas/Medel debate all weekend on here and at this moment in time i see Medel as the far better player.Canas has done nothing wrong, looks decent so far but I don't think he's on the same level as Gary Medel. Not yet anyway.

There were lots of concerns about his temperament and discipline. To be honest I thought we were getting a decent enough defensive midfield"enforcer", but there's much more to his game than that. We've got to enjoy it while it lasts as he's got a top champions league club written allover him

Canas just doesn't stand out which I expected more considering you're dealing the season before.

I was thinking this yesterday after reading all the threads on here. The guy was head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch at Fulham and it won't go un-noticed.I could see it in the West Ham game.First half he was superb and always made himself available which of course is a sign of a very confident and able player.Really like the look of him and come the summer there'll be plenty of suitors i'd have thought. If he continues like he has and controls his temperement then you'll do well to hold onto him.

All said, the same was said about Michu, with us and he's still here.

He controls the game a lot better than Canas at the moment mate.I like Canas and think there's more to come from him but at this moment in time I don't think JC is on the same level as GM.I'm pretty sure you think the same, but in time honoured Dimi tradition, you like to stoke the fires and to be fair you're doing a great job of it on here.

Genuinely think they are incredibly similar. I never post to wind up, people just dont like to hear the other side of the coin.

True.I think what's happened here is you started a thread on the eve of Saturdays games and your now just fighting your corner.Medel was superb at Fulham and Canas was meh against Arsenal.Canas might play well next game up but Medel is sure to i think.

Agreed.

The funny thing is ive said Medel had a very game. People use stats to show how good a game he had and then dismiss the very same stats when based over all of the games because they work out in Canas' favour. Its senseless.

This whole canas/medel thing is insanely boring now. It was only an off the cuff comment and its made every one super mad! They both play in the same league against the same players, so lets let the boys themselves do the talking.

Thing is Michu's worth depends on his continuing ability to score goals at this level where Medals does not.I agree if Medal goes through this season without a repeat of his discipline problems of last season then I can see a top side tempting him away.

Good point about Michu, and the same could be said about Britton or Whitts for us, albeit at championship level.
A lot of the transfers are dictated by newspaper talk. Players become fashionable and under pressure managers buy them at a premium.
Other players just slip under the radar. Rangel for instance.

If medal does go for champions league team then I'd expect him to go for an absolute minimum of 20 million seeing as we paid 11. Really can't see him going for 9 million prifit though....we aren't exactly desperate, so it would take a big number to break his contract.

First time poster, be kind!! - Season ticket holder for 13 years.

Had a go at trying to compare the stats on Medel vs Canas, tried to pick similar games (although this can be argued). Whilst Medel seems to win more of his tackles, Canas appears to make more interceptions. Tried to attach a pic of the table I produced from the stats (courtesy of Four Four Two's Stat Zone).

Very similar players although both are playing in completely different systems although in a similar role. I would expect a Swansea player to make more passes during the game than a Cardiff player and that is down to their footballing style of play. We play a more direct style of play whilst the Swansea play a more patient approach generally. Although I have not listed here this also proves to be true in both games Canas is attempting more passes than Medel.

The price tag issue is brought up a lot, but this is purely down to timing of a player's contract. Medel was under contract and Cardiff had to pay the price to get him, Canas ran down his contract and Swansea were able to attract him due to the Spanish connection and Laudrup.

I still believe Medel is the better player, and I think this will prove to be the case over the season. Once he grasps more of the language this will help and from what I have seen of him this season he is improving in every game. He has not got the luxury Canas has got to fit in with players of the same nationality, and I would expect his bedding in process to take a little longer than Canas. Canas has also had more time at Swansea, he was bought early in pre season and has had the opportunity and game time to gel with team mates and the system of playing.

I guess time will tell on this one. :ayatollah: :malky:

What a debut! An original and perceptive analysis which puts the stats business into a useful perspective.
Beyond that I personally don't give a sh1t about canas. I don't watch or concern myself with the jerks until we play them. I'll leave that to Malky.
My own eyes tell me that Medel is an extremely accomplished player of undoubted international class who has slotted in superbly to the team and will probably get better with time.He has stood out in every game so far and is a superb buy by Malky.

Great post Pete, similar players playing pretty much the same so far in their opening 5/6 games. Time certainly will tell on this one as ive been saying from the start.

The more tests (matches) we have to go on, the more accurate and relevant the data becomes.
