' Cardiff overpaid for Andreas Cornelius, says Fulham boss Martin Jol '

FULHAM boss Martin Jol has claimed that Cardiff striker Andreas Cornelius is overpriced and has backed on-loan Darren Bent to outscore the Dane this season.
By: Ben Jefferson

Andreas Cornelius cost Cardiff £8m

Cornelius made an £8m move to the Welsh capital from FC Copenhagen this summer, and while Jol admits the 20-year-old is someone Fulham looked at, the Dutchman believes he is not worth that amount.

He said: "We knew him (Cornelius).

"He was on our shadow list, but I thought it was not only too much, but we couldn't afford to buy him.

"We've got Bent. That is probably not long-term, because he will go back to Aston Villa, probably.

"During the time he is here, hopefully he will score goals and hopefully more than Cornelius."

Martin Jol
Jol is under pressure at Fulham following a slow start to the season but claims his side would be in the top-half of the Premier League were it not for some bad luck.

He said: "The difference between being successful and not is nothing.

"If we had won the game against West Brom, we would've been in the top half of the table."

Martin Jol says Fulham couldn't afford Andreas Cornelius

Jol knows that things won't get any easier against Cardiff this weekend however.

He added: "If you look at Cardiff, they're very organised.

"They've got pace up front and they've always got some activity. They'd like to hurt you.

"It's not a walkover, of course not. It's a strong team with good qualities. They've invested a few bob as well.

"It won't be easy, but how many games are easy in the league?

"It's never easy. They will come at you, they will try to have a go."

When a manager wasn't able to bring a player in they wanted, that's a normal response

History will judge the price, not Jol

I actually tend to agree. Two ankle injuries since he arrived, and when he's played he hasn't looked that great. Heavy touch IMO.

I'm sure he'll get much better and start scoring, but for now I haven't seen a lot to be impressed by

Always love a bitter comment from an under fire manager

He needs to reflect on his own teams firepower quite honestly

Lets judge Cornelius when he has had some proper game time - not a couple of halves in pre season and cup games and ten minutes against Man City.

As for Jol - he should put his own house in order, and lets face it, Bent at his best would outscore most strikers in the premiership as he has done previously, so that just a stupid statement to make.

Bent might well out score Cornelius, but Bent adds nothing else to the team hopefully Cornelius will add a lot more than goals I would much rather have his potential than a lazy forward

Can't say that currently. He is 20 isn't he? Lot of time to settle in and could pay off in the long term but Bent is getting older.

I was at Fulham Saturday and if you had seen bent you wouldn't back him to get many this season.

Sound like a wee but of sour grapes to me, which is quite sad as I always liked Jol.
Had Fulhams Owners been prepared to part with the cash I'm sure he would've been singing a different tune.Best business they did in the market was capturing Stekelenburg (iffy spelling) .
Bent was a poor singing if I'm being honest and in glad we never got him.

Wouldn't mind that Bryan Ruiz as a Sub replacement for Kimbo mind you...

What Jol is saying is pointless because we paid that money due to the potential that he has.

I knew i would get posts like this, which is why i said i dare not post it.i be honest,i dont care what you" call",im only posting what i was told.Cornrlius was the only player who couldnt complete a simple dribbling excercise, the coaches commented to a mate of mine, who was there, and was a welsh international. If you dont want to believe fair enough.

Prime motivation for Cornelius if ever I saw some.

That should help Malkie, let's hope the big Dane reacts.

Early reports are concerning over performances, be great to get an insider view once he's training and fully fit
