Back in the day in the 40s, 50s and 60s when Fulham was a normal, working class area we used to average 25-30,000 year on year, with 49,335 being the record crowd for a 2nd division derby against Millwall.
In the 70s, and 80s, Fulham started to become more gentrified, and the local support was forced out of the area due to prices.
Please remember, Fulham is one of 3 teams in the same borough! (let alone one of 12-13 teams in London), and back then our crowds in the old second division averaged about 9-10,000.
All of us who were there back then remain, but our rapid rise through the divisions at the end of the nineties inevitably brought outsiders and tourists etc. and now, as an establised (for the moment!) Premier League team, our avaerage gate of 25,000 is made up primarily of newbies who add absoultely nothing to the atmosphere.
To be frank, it negates the atmosphere, and together with all seater stadiums now, the old, hardcore support is so diluted around the stadium that it now far too sedate, granted.
We do have our moments, and our run to the Europa League final in 2010 brought a few loud, atmospheric atmospheres.
Our away form is also relatively small compared to the home gates, but that is totally understandable because a) the problem above with only a relatively low number of 'real' fans compared to the home gates now, and b) when you've been in the top flight for over 12-13 years, and have a family to consider, the decision to spend £100+ on yet another defeat tends to get made for you!
Now don't get me wrong, your support was good yesterday, but it always gives me a wry smile when a club from a capital city, with only 2 other league clubs in the whole country, and a massive catchment area from all the surrounding valleys, thinks that taking 4,000+ to London in their first year back in the Premier League is anything other than the least expected.
You don't need the 'prawn sandwich brigade, because there are enough traditional football people to fill your stadium at the drop of a hat, and therefore you should take thousands of loud support everywhere.
When we come to Cardiff, we might only bring 500-1,000, but that's not bad considering our catchment area, and those fans will be the ones (lime me) who used to come to Ninian Park back in the day, and will be just as passionate as your 4,000.
Finally, well done on your victory, as there was only one team who seemed to want it yesterday, and hopefully when we come to yours we give you more of a game!

I suppose those, having just had their lead singer "Michael Jackson" removed from the cottage it left them pretty flat![]()

1500 to Hull, and 300 to West Ham?... wasn't it 91 in WBA wednesday? 170 at Sunderland last year?

Nibble, nibble. Bit touchy about that, eh? Suppose it's hard to take when Swansea took 2.5k to Valencia, 2k to Palace and nearly 1k to Brum in the space of a week.

It was nearly 800 at Brum. 450 at Sunderland. Pretty impressive for a Wednesday night. Suppose Cardiff would have taken more, but then most of you could have had two days off school. Not so easy when you're old enough to work
