Malky Mackay: Cardiff City good value for last-minute win over Fulham

'We got our just rewards in the end,' says Cardiff City's manager after Jordon Mutch's late goal earned three points against Fulhan
Malky Mackay felt his Cardiff City side got what they deserved courtesy of Jordon Mutch's sensational injury-time winner.
Cardiff had suffered late heartbreak six days earlier when Paulinho grabbed a stoppage-time winner for Tottenham Hotspur in South Wales.
But the boot was very much on the other foot as substitute Mutch smashed home a 30-yarder two minutes into time added on to leave Fulham devastated.
"We got our just rewards in the end, " said Mackay after the 2-1 win secured Cardiff's first away victory in the Premier League.
"I was delighted with the way we played from the first minute to the last. We ended up with 24 attempts on goal and away from home that's a fantastic stat."We had a lot of domination of the ball and plenty of chances in the first half.
"I was disappointed to go in 1-1 at half-time, even though it was a fantastic strike from Bryan Ruiz. "
Cardiff certainly had the better of the opportunities in a gripping contest but it looked as if they would have to settle for a point until Mutch's left-footed thunderbolt.
"Jordon's got that in his locker with both feet - and that's his weaker foot, " said Mackay.
"That's the talent he's got and we're striving to get that talent out at this level.
"Invariably, players at this level can do that from 25 yards, but I'm delighted for him because he was excellent at West Ham in the Capital One Cup in midweek and ran the game in the second half. I've got a lot of faith in him.
"But I thought Gary Medel ran whole game, he orchestrated it and I would be interested to see how many touches and passes he had.
"It's unfair to mention him and not others, but I felt he dominated in midfield from first to last. "
Mackay admitted he was delighted with the victory and said it was another sign that Cardiff were adapting to their new surroundings.
"We've got real belief after six games, the ability to play at this level, " he said.
"The performances have been good and we deserve to be in the position we are.
"We wanted to play in a certain way and the way we dominated the ball in the first half gave us confidence going forward.
"We've played against really good teams and had lots of the ball in those games, so the players have got the confidence they should be playing at this level.
"We wanted to positive and I asked the substitutes to go and win the game. In the second half we showed great belief and kept striving for the win...and one of the subs ends up scoring the winner.
"You've got to be clinical at this level and I've said before that you've got to take your chances when they come along.
"If you don't take them it can punish you and when the second one doesn't come goals like Ruiz's can happen.
"But we got a great goal and it was one was definitely deserved. "
' Boss Malky Mackay hails resilience '

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay hailed the resilience of his side after they pulled off a last-gasp win at Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
Steven Caulker put the Bluebirds ahead with a header but Bryan Ruiz equalised on the stroke of half time for the hosts.
It looked to be heading for a draw but substitute Jordon Mutch sealed the three points with an injury-time wonder strike.
The win came after a last-gasp loss to Spurs in the league last Sunday and 3-2 Capital One Cup defeat at West Ham in midweek.
" Malky Mackay's thoughts on the game "
Mackay admitted he thought the game at Craven Cottage would end as a draw and he was delighted both with the win, and the performance of his players.
" We were Fantastic "
He told Sky Sports: "I thought we were fantastic today, from the first minute. I think we ended up with 24 shots at their goal today.
"But they showed real resilience. We've had a tough week, we've had two long away trips this week but we kept going until the end.
"We put three substitutions on to go and try and win the game and one of them actually ended up scoring.
"So just reward in the end I think.
"It was a fantastic strike from him (Mutch). He's a top young player but overall I thought it was a really good performance."
Mackay was delighted his side had the belief to go out and win following the late loss to Spurs last week.
"I thought we were excellent last week against Spurs," he added, "and it was a cruel blow to lose in the last minute or so but we thoroughly deserved the three points today."
