' WOULD HAVE LIKED TO PROGRESS '

Tue Sep 24, 2013 9:25 pm

In the last couple of years I have been someone who wanted to get out of the cup competitions as soon as possible as we didn't have a squad big enough to push for promotion and have a cup run.

Tonight we had a second string out but there was quality in the team, this competition was a perfect way to give these players a run out against good opposition.

The first half we didn't perform for the first 40 minutes and being a goal down in the first 30 secs didn't help and then 2-0 after 7 minutes.

A stunning Craig Noone goal got us back in the game when we didn't deserve it but who cares whether it is deserved or not.

Odemwingie got a goal on his first City start to silence the Upton Park faithful and sent 300 of us delirious.

It is a shame that we couldn't take the game into extra time.

Tonight was like a championship game in standard but a good old fashioned cup tie.

Great laugh, great company, good craic.

Would have loved to have had a run in the cup and see more of our second string have the chance to impress.

The players clapped the fans for their support at the end of the game. :ayatollah:

Not for me, prem survival is key.. Our squad hasn't got the strength in depth to maintain a cup run & if a key player got injured in a second tier cup competition, many would slate Malky.

Can't fault the effort and they had a stronger team. Positive signs from us coming back from 2-0 down which is something to take away.

i think times have changed in the last couple of years. it has been seen as a mickey mouse cup, but i think the big boys want to win this cup now, just because. its a trophy to say, oh well we finished third, plus we one the carling cup

You were delirious after an equaliser in a league cup match?

The buzz of seeing your side come from 2 down in a competitive match would be more than enough to send me into delirium.

Awful start and a very poor first 40 minutes. Plenty more dig in the second half and I thought we looked more likely to win it as we neared full time but such is the nature of football at times!

Thought John, Odemwingie & Mutch had very good games while Noone & McNaughton had very good second halves. Brayford & Connolly didnt have the best of nights though.

Hope everyone has a safe journey home.

I think it's important that we keep our squad match fit as at any point the fringe players maybe recalled into the first team because of injuries. So I would welcome a good run .

Exactly how I felt. Just arrived home and that was an excellent match for our Reserve team, could not ask for better. More games like that would keep them all fit and sharp.

I agree Annis, I was disappointed we didn't progress. :ayatollah:

Who played well, who didn’t? Did any of the second choice players look like they can slot into the first team? It sounded like Hudson was awful and Connolly even worse. How did Mutch play ? Do you think it’s time to give Noone a game. How many fans did we take up? What was the atmosphere like?????

No they didn't, little Swansea town beat a 2nd division side in the final.
