Don Cowie - Why

Sun Sep 22, 2013 8:14 pm

Why does Malky bring on Don Cowie on In tight games he is not an attacking player or a defensive player I dont understand what he offers when we are chasing a game or tying to close out a result. IMO it shows a lack of tactical awareness of what's required in the closing moments of a game.

The same Don Cowie who had the most Premier League assists? A scapegoat yet again. Gunnarsson was f*cking dreadful today, where's the threads on him?

Cowie is a scapegoat on this forum. I wasn't a fan but he has improved a lot.

Read the post, i'm not blaming Cowie just questioning Malkys tactics, if he would have swapped Cowie for Gunnar no problem, but he takes off Bellamy who is a attacking player (who has played poorly so far this season) for a player who is not defensive or attacking and is in fact a central player, surely Noone or even Harris should be given a chance as players with pace.

Two, one being taking a corner, When will Real Madrid realise they have dropped a right bollock signing Bale

Cowie is both, he plays an ugly role, in all honesty I thought Cowie for Bellamy and Mutch for Gunnar would have been ideal. Malky hasn't played with an out and out winger in our games so far

Still delivered it in. Bellamy has offered f**k all, all season. One of our highest players on the pay roll yet doesn't look interested at all. I hope it's his last so we can focus to the future. Cowie actually contributes. Does an ugly job well

I was referring more to him being a scapegoat and how poor gunner was today. Mind you, since when is being able to take a quality corner something to rubbish?

Malky brings him on because he is a very Gwd player , I thought he should of come on sooner for gunners who was struggling today .

Not blaming Cowie for any results past or present good honest player for us but not good enough to effect games at this Level and shows how poor our summer recruitment really was, most fans expected Cowie to be in a group of players to leave in the summer but no one really did.

He was brought on to bring calmness to our play. No what he does isn't effective but it's a job that is overshadowed. I didn't think Cowie would leave, he's not there to be a first teamer but does the job well when called upon. He wasn't being played in an attacking role. We set up to defend from the off. Cowie is a good option to call upon. May not be a PL player no but some players can arguably prove a point

I agree Gunnar was poor but surely Mutch is a replacement for him especially as he was part of our Midfield trio that helped us to clinch promotion(keeping Cowie out of the side)

I rate kimbo and medal as very good as well, COwie is one of these ayers who does a shift , box to box , and can also create , as in whitts goal last week and in man city game .

I respect your opinion but Cowie is not a player who I would think of that would bring calmness to our side

So it doesn't count because it was a corner? Any chance to shit on Cowie though.

Re: Don Cowie - Why

Cowie rarely loses the ball can pick a pass and score. He is not as destructive as Gunnar, but in games we need to win I would prefer Cowie in the middle. But, my preference is for Whitts for gunnar

Bellers is playing deeper than we would like, Whitts offers no pace on the left.

But the point it was is Cowie the scapegoat when we have other players who we could easily have a pop at? Cowie has only played a bit part this season but has created 2 goals. So why wouldn't Malky bring him on? What would you have done?

The side has no balance at all, i agree Whit's should be central instead of Gunnar to give us a bit more craft and to help keep possesion, as a goal scorer Cowie has scored 15 goals in 4 seasons in English football nothing to brag about.

i would have brought a player with pace on, to make spurs realise we could hit them on the brake and at least stop one fullback rampaging forward as they did in the last 10 mins.
